Default This is going to sound silly, but.....

I have a tuning question that has been bothering me since my cam swap. I've had it tuned by Solomon and it is great and spot on for a performance tune, but I have a question. Its a cc503 (7-503-8, 224/230 duration .503/.510 with 1.5 rockers) and the choppy idle was more agressive before the tune. Why is that? It has a choppy idle as it sits but it doesn't sound like the videos on YouTube that have my same camshaft and a tune... Why did my choppy lope get milder after the tune?

Perhaps it is running better now that it's tuned? Was the idle set at a higher RPM?

Idle speed and type of exhaust will have alot to do with sound.

A baby cam with a low idle rpm and open exhaust can sound just as big as a donkey dick cam with a full exhaust and higher idle rpm.

Pretty sure timing can affect the sound as well.

I just have the basic 3" inlet/outlet cross flow muffler from flowmaster with the stock tips removed, and the idle set to 750ish. I do have a electric cutout that sounds great, but sometimes I want to run quiet for cruising but loud at stoplights lol. Also timing is set to pretty much stock, it was advanced but it removed the choppy lope so I had the timing set back near stock.

generally tuning for a aftermarket cam raises the idle RPM, among other parameters, so the car idles smoother and does not "surge" at idle.

starting the car with a cam with the stock tune with a lower idle around 650 rpm it will have more of a "chop" sound but beyond that the tune needs to be adjusted for different timing, fuel trims, etc to run optimally.

if you are more concerned about having a chop sound ask your tuner to lower the idle rpm...but you may sacrifice drive-ability and performance some.

Is there a better muffler that will improve my choppy lope that I have now? like the SLP LM series or Magnaflow replacement mufflers? I've been looking for another muffler option anyway. I cant afford any Borla price range systems lol. It just seems like the Cross Flow Flowmaster hides the lope a bit IMO. would putting tips (stock location by the bumper) back on the car help instead of just having the exhaust exit under the car?

Flow masters are restrict as f**k... Borla... I don't like them... they use half exhaust, half muffler sound... for that price I'd find a good muffler... Magna flow has a spit "T" design that's straight through... no restriction what so ever... hundred bucks for one... or Dynomax SS turbo muffler is nice... but a lil restrictive... not as much as flow master but has a nice seep throaty sound under throttle

Dynomax VTs. Have a great grumble around town, but put your foot into it and things get really, really loud

My car sounded more tame after Solomon tuned it in pump gas. Then even more tame after I switched it over to E85.

Another thing that I have noticed is the hard start... After the tune, I have to feather the throttle a bit then it will idle on its own or else it will just die until eventually it will run on its own. Also it smells rich while doing so. I literally have a new AC Delco fuel pump, fuel filter, and regulator also. Is this normal? I don't think it would be lol. It never done this before the cam swap. I have a datalog program if that would help...

my 268/271 .688/.688 SR setup sounds pretty tame compared to some MUCH smaller cams...its in the tune. I'd sacrifice bark for bite anyday!

Anybody have any idea why this is happening? Is it just because how its tuned?
