Default 3/8 pushrod broke in half

Went to fix an valve cover gasket on my motor and noticed rocker was off on intake valve of #6. Turn out that my 3/8 manley pushrod snapped at the top, and it bent my one isky guide plate. Has anyone seen this happen? Also since it bent the guide plate that means it caused the lifter to bottom out plunger wise, should i replace the lifter?

PR may have walked off the lifter cup. Check the lifter too. Take it out and examine the cam lobe and roller bearing.

I would think you would have heard this happen or at least notice a cyl missing/misfire.

The lifter involved did bottom out when this happened....did it kill that lifter...you won't know until you pull and check. You could just throw in another PR and lash valves to see if it runs/sounds "normal"

might want to consider the shape of your valve springs are up to your cam specs and still provide the open & seat pressure required

the guide plate can likely be straightened

No there was a misfire, i thought it was a plug wire since that wire runs basically right inbetween primaries. I changed the wire and thats when i noticed valve cover gasket. Cam has low 230 duration with about 570 lift and i have new manley 221436-16 springs.

...."side loading", did Manley offer a "how" that may have happened?

with guide plates the PR does not pop off like on SA RR. The ISKY especially as you can line up RR tip dead nuts L-R with the adjustable.

The lifter may have survived but best to pull it and especially look down the bore at the cam lobe

If you over revved and valve spring just could not control valve at that RPM that shiat happens. Hopefully a new push rod and a hammer to flatten guide plate is all that is needed for repair

He said there was to areas of contact on the pushrod that shouldnt be there, the on to the left (pic below) i told was from when it broke and it danced around in the pushrod hole from the commetic head gaskets. The one on the right i have no clue.3/8 pushrod broke in half-20170929_175607.jpg. Also said 3/8 pushrod is way over kill and to big, but i like overkill. I still dont understand how it could sideload since i made sure the rockers were dead nuts in the middle of valve tip. I dont remember the pushrod touching the headgasket at all

Those adjustable guide plates? Are they welded? If not, are you sure the one didn't get out of kilter causing the side load? If you haven't already, check for damage on the lifter and cup.

My guess is either the guideplate loosened and moved based on those witness marks, or a fatigued spring caused the PRs to go nuts at high RPM. Maybe both?

Springs are brand new and shop checked them when they installed them. With the guide plate its weird, bottom looks like it has chatter marks but top has no marks . My guess is rod broke and from it jarring against guide it loosened rocker stud a tad.

Cam looks good and lifter looks good minus the retainer clip to hold guts in it. Gonna end up putting a set of johnson 2110 or 2110r lifters in while its open

no one told you that you needed to check and make sure the push rods do not bottom out on the plates did they. It broke because it was trapped in the cup of the rocker and was being flexed against the bottom of the guide plate. I have seen it a few times. Even lived it my self.

If I have said it once I have said it a million times. Push rods and rocker arm studs do not just "Break" there is always some thing causing it
