Default Thoughts on LS7 lifters?

Ive had some concerns about my stock 100k+ mileage lt1 lifters collapsing under higher rpms and not getting oil through them so I went ahead and bought myself some LS7 lifters from Brian Tooley Racing. Just would like to know everyones thoughts on these? I hear its a pretty common choice for newer builds like 383's etc.

I run the ls7 lifters in my 355. I shift at 6800 rpms. It’s not a daily driver by any means now days though but they are holding up just fine to beating on it on the weekends and racing at the track.

I've ran them for the last 5K miles shifting at 6500rpm with a xfi280 cam. No problems.

Despite loads of people saying they're the same as LT1 lifters - they are not. Different cup depth is the most notable thing, and easily seen with the naked eye, right behind the (also different) retaining clip. As for the innards, I've not taken them apart to see if the guts are different - but may do so eventually. Also, contrary to posts stating otherwise, GM is still making (and selling) LT1 specific lifters because - surprise - they're different from LS lifters. The LS lifters will fit just fine, but so will a properly machined tree branch. Doesn't mean its the correct part. I ran the Skip White LS lifters and couldn't get them quiet enough. Ran a set of Crower lifters and the rollers delaminated and wiped out the cam. Now I am running GMPP LT1 lifters and have zero problems.

As with anything else on here - ymmv.

Dan

Are the GMPP lifters made by Mellig? (JB2079)

or part#?

FWIW I have had Comp 850's in my 383 now for 40+k mi and so far all good. IDK if Comp makes their lifters

https://www.jegs.com/i/COMP-Cams/249...791+4294829174

LSx lifters, no direct experience. Have read several "problem" issues and also "good"....so I defer to those comments from their source as I have no experience with them.

Don't know who makes them. I got mine as part of the GMPP kit with spider, dogbones, and lifters. I believe they are 17120735 lifters - good for gen 1 and 2 GM V8's

Go through them and make sure they look good, had 2 that would barely fit in the lifter bore.

I would recommended a LS7 lifter like I would recommend An LS7 clutch. If on a tight budget yes. If not, spend a couple hundred more and buy some good shift while you are there.

I've had them in my car for the last 8 years (installed with the cam) and they've been fine.

By that logic, nobody with an LS1 should run an ls6 or ls7 clutch either. The fact is that LS7 lifters ARE interchangeable with LT1 lifters and plenty have used them without issue. Friend is running a set on his 96 TA right now with no problems.

I had no issues with them in my engine but after seeing two friends go through issues, I went to link bars in my next build.

LTx and LSx blocks are completely different. GM still makes LTx specific lifters because they're different from LS lifters. Sure - they'll work. Sure - lots of people are running them without issue, just as there have been lots of people that have had issues. No, they're not the correct part. Is saving $200 worth the hassle of possibly having to crack open the top-end again to swap them out if something goes wrong?

"The poor cheap man pays twice"

Like I said - your mileage may vary.

Edit: Also, GM began installing LS6 clutches on LS1's in 2001.
