Default AIP Opti review

I just recieved my AIP Opti from SacCityCorvette today. I looked around for a while for reviews on this thing before I bought it and really couldn't find that much. At least not since the redesign.

I bought the vented version. It included the harness. I found a few posts from other sites complaining about bearing play out of the box. This one has none. Not side to side or front to back. The cap looks kinda cheap. I wanted to replace it with an MSD I have laying around but they marked all the bolts and void the warranty if removed so I didn't bother. I plan to put it on the car in the next few days. I'll update this then.

Finally got around to installing it. Right now, it's only been in the car about an hour. Everything is good so far. No codes, runs smooth, pulls hard to 6500. I'll post up again if anything comes up.

Cool, opti’s seem to be hit and miss with the aftermarket. I’ll be Glad to rid myself of the whole thing eventually.

Started running rough, backfiring through the intake and idling super low a few weeks ago. Finally got a code 36 high res failure. Opti lasted 110 miles

You contact the seller? I don't remember, but wasn't it advertised with some sort of warranty?

Must be purchased through SacCityCorvette to receive this 2 yr warranty!
Now the real question is are you willing to give AIP another shot?

I talked with Sac City Corvette. It's obviously still under warranty. They used to send a new one out and let you send back the old one later but they got burned a few times doing that. However, They gave me the option to buy another one and refund me when they receive the old one so that's what I did.

Do they offer a full refund upon return of the bad opti or are you now a hostage? If the next one goes bad are they going to pay for the coolant replacement?

Yea, full refund for one of them. Pretty sure they aren't gonna pay for coolant and gaskets

Hopefully this next one holds up. Reminds me I should have bought a few extra Delphis when they were on sale several years ago. :\

I got one in 2014 for like $250 off of Amazon. If I knew they were gonna discontinue them I'd have gotten more. Luckily my spare is also an AC Delco, came with the car.

Yeah I've tossed around the idea of doing that as well, but with no plans on modding any further for the time being I can't bring myself to buy the system. My play money is going elsewhere at the moment.

I tell you what in the grand scheme of things I cant tell a diffrence. But Its nice to have options with tuners and not have to worry about where to get an opti. I probably would have stuck with the opti had there been a good reliable replacement source.

110 miles is pretty disappointing regardless of what might have been expected. I guess worst case it would have been DOA. It will be interesting to see how the replacement holds up. I'm almost certain that AIP was formerly known as All Ignition and their optisparks had a very poor reputation.

It's too bad that there isn't a good source for reliable optisparks. I don't really need an optispark, but I'm thinking about sending my factory original to that guy on ebay for a rebuild. Who knows how that would work out, but his ebay rating is good.

I'm not really sure what people are supposed to do if they need an opti. I guess you could always raid a junkyard and hope to get an AC Delco in decent shape or have it rebuilt via the ebay service.

How difficult is the 24x conversion?

I own three right now. The factory original, which was in working order when I pulled it, a Delco which has a bad sensor (starts missing above 6000rpm) and a Delphi currently on the car now. Out of those I think I can keep my car running for a bit longer.

I am now running my Delphi I bought SEVERAL years ago back when thepartsladdy was selling them for about $200. My old but not original AC Delco unit with MSD C&R still works fine but will let oil in through the rear bearing/seal over several thousand miles. The minimal oil inside never caused a problem as I would clean it but left unattended would eventually foul sensor contact

If I needed a Opti today I would send a AC Delco from junkyard or wherever you can get one to the ebay guy for rebuild. My only knowledge of his work, beyond reviews, is my friend is running one after going through a few "cheap" Opti's and so far no problems

Mt LT1 car has been done modding for years now and I have no intention of going 24x on it

I ran an MSD for a while but the bearing developed a bunch of play in it. I think that caused the wheel to hit the sensor

The new one showed up today. This one has a different cap on it. I know they updated the design at some point. I'm thinking the first one was a leftover.

Installed the new one today. Ran and idled awesome. First time it hit 4k, motor cut out for a split second and popped a code 36. Ran great after that. I cleared the code and it comes right back everytime I hit 4k. Like clockwork.
