Default Fuel pump slection

So I havent been steered wrong by you guys yet. I have a fuel leak on my fuel tank and I'm gonna pull the tank and figure out why. I'm pretty sure its leaking from the seal where the pump sits.

Right now I have an NA 383 and while the tank is out I figured I put a new pump in. Soon as my 70 chevelle is done I'm gonna pull the motor back out of the camaro and have the underside of the car cleaned up and repaint the car. While it's out I want to redo the motor and add a supercharger to it. So probably in the next two years I'll be doing all of this.

What fuel pump setup should I pick.

I guess it depends on what type of fuel you decide to run because if you opt for E85 they could change fuel demand and pump requirements. I’m personally thinking about doing an E85 swap myself. Also, do you want to hero a stock line configuration or do you want to run custom lines? Would you prefer to keep the pump(s) inside the tank or would you be OK running an exterior inline pump?

IMO, run a genuine walbro 255 (lots of knock offs so buy from reputable vendor) and leave it be.

There is absolutely no reason to run a huge pump for future maybes.

Definitely want.to keep it in the tank. We dont have e85 here or at least I have never seen it. We do have 93 every where. I'd have no problem changing out to aftermarket line set up.

I would prefer to do it now.as i really hate dropping the tank on this car. I'm changing the rear axle while i have the tank out this time I'm gona get an 8.8 with 373 gears.

I also dont want to do something that negatively effects how the car runs. I'm definitely going to do it because a ) I am getting a little rust under the bottom of the car. I have had this car since 04 this car stated out life as a 3.4 by and I have gotten it this far. B) I cant stand the cam I have in this car so I want to change to a diffrent setup anyway.

I was looking at the racetronix kit from the ws6 store.

Well, if you are dead set on it, you need to determine how much power you think the car may make later on down the road.

Twin 255s are a staple of getting folks ~700hp area
http://www.lonniesperformance.com/fbodyfuelsystems.htm

Or, a big walbro 450 but taht will not fit in factory bucket

Personally, I would build for what you have and upgrade later. Dropping the tank is not that bad and is much better than cycling a crap ton of fuel around your tank gaining heat.

That's really the information I wanted to know. I'm gonna follow your advice now and do the walbro255 and the hot wire kit.

i'm working on a dual in tank walbro 255 setup for my 383 with a turbo, that would be my suggestion as SNM stated. i am going to run one pump full time as normal and have the second pump kick on at around 3 lbs of boost or so. there's also the dreaded trap door mod that would save you from dropping the tank every time. takes me 5 minutes to access the top of the tank in my car

That's something I need to do as well, I'd like to see if someone has put up some measurements to go by for making the cut. Dropping the steel tank sucks and I was also thinking of suggesting going to a newer style plastic tank with the removable filler neck because really the filler neck is what makes the tank a pain to get out after you get the exhaust and stuff out of the way.

Yes the filler neck is the.pain. so the plastic tanks the neck comes off? Is it a direct fit? I'd imagine it would.be out side maybe the lines.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the 99+ tanks the fuel filler neck is removable. You'll know as soon as you look one up. As far as fitment goes it's gotta be super close. I can't imagine that GM changed a boat load there.

Be careful of the f-body bro purists who believe you are a sinner if you do the trap door mod. All of them will swear to you they can drop the tank and change out a pump faster and will retain the "rigidity" of the body. Lots of

I can drop the tank pretty fast, its two bolts. I mean, not as bad as folks make it out to be IMO.

AFAIK, the LSX tanks have a different fuel level sender, so your LTX gauge won't work. It can be modified but just a word of caution.

yeah way to much effort to change to.a plastic tank.

The tank is easy to get out its the axle that is a pita. Of the tank was in another location that be diffrent.

lol oh i know, i saw all the naysayers in various write ups when i was researching the mod. if you have full carpet in the car you cant even tell its there, chill out. 90% of these cars aren't worth more than 6k anymore anyways

The only thing ever cut on my car is the trap door, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

x2. I cut the trap door on my at the time perfect 10k mile Formula WS6 and I would do it again and again and again. I've needed to change the pump twice now and am glad to have the easy access.

Just be careful when cutting it out. I was a dumb *** teenager at the time and the sparks fubbered my glass up, something I didn't realize until later on when I had the hatch glass tinted. If I didn't get a free hatch with good glass from a friend I'd be mad as hell so mask it that ****** off good so you don't make the same mistake I did.
