Default Kooks vs Speed Engineering

I have been debating this for awhile. I have heard great things about both. But why is Kooks 1250 more? What makes them that much better and is that worth the difference?

So i put Speed engineering longtubes on my 96SS. They fit in the engine bay great, had really good plug access and the flanges were thick and flat. However I have heard some times where the flanges weren't exactly trued up and flat. I will say one big issue I ran into is the steering shaft totally makes contact with the #3 and #5 primaries. I tried grinding down the stock steering shaft slightly all around and it did help some, but I still don't feel I have full, un-obstructed spin while turning. This is now causing me to order this weekend the Detroit Speed rack and pinion as well as the LS1 style steering shaft which has a different angle which will give much more room between the primaries and shaft.

Kooks is just like the Borla catback I put on at the same time. You absolutely pay for what you get. That Borla dropped in with absolutely no issues at all, much different from the Speed Engineering True duals I tried just before that which fit like complete crap. Kooks is supposed to be the top of the line headers for our cars.

I put speed engineering on my old truck (99 silverado) and in the y pipe in a very tight spot it was missing a huge area of weld. It definitely would have made noise. Contacted them, they offered another set of some money back if I wanted to weld it. I can weld so thats what I did. I havent owned American racing headers but from what i've seen, they are cream of the crop. I just can;t afford them.

I put the speed engineering LT on my 95z. It definitely rubbed on the steering shaft. I'm sure a test for, a few walks with a hammer and reinstall would be just fine. The collectors definitely hit the body, but that was from the original motor mounts collapsed. I would highly advise doing motor mounts the same time as the long tube install.
Installed speed engineering LTs on 2 ls1 cars are fit/install was no issue

Honestly, if I were in the market for headers, I'd be looking at the OBX firesale going on right now.
