Default LT1 = 500 hp+

Anyone know of anybody with LT1 block making 400+ on motor. I am looking to build a 396 and am just researching. I am going to use LT1 or LT4 heads and LT4 intake, and eagle rods and crank, srp pistons. I am wanting and have read of (magazine myths) 550hp b4 200 shot of dope. Anyone with any ideas or expierences would be appreciatted!

Lloyd says his stage II/III heads will make over 400hp on motor. A decent head and cam setup for the lt1 should net at least 400HP. If you go all out with lt4 raised runner casting and a custom manifold and a big cam then you might be able to hit 550HP on motor. A few have done it although it will cost you mega $$$.

Made 441 rear wheel through a t-400 and a slipping converter. Never tried once I put in the new converter but It ran 11.16 at 123 with it at 3450 #s. Combo was a TYTECH 396, GTP LT-4 heads and intake, CC Hydraulic Roller, and 11 to 1 compression. I think you can obtain 500 with a a combo built for NA. Mine was a nitrous set-up.

I am going with the same setup I got from CHP article. this guy from Indiana got 550 b4 150 shot. I think it was the june issue the cover was "camshafts". Any way his is daily driver 12:1 compression and running in the mid 10's. Like I say if this is to much for the LT1 I will probably go to cast iron 6.0 liter block and do it LS1 style.

A 355 w/ forged pistons, strong rods, stock crank, decent ported LT1 heads and full supporting mods will get you 400+rwhp easily and still handle a 150-200 shot of juice. You don't need a stroker to hit 400rwhp anymore with todays cam grinds.

What's your budget for the long block?

Not a bad budget cant afford cnc AFR heads but have enough. LT4 will be the way I go and may go with a crank trigger instead of trusty opti. Is it true the LT1 puts out more TQ down low than the LS1.

We are currently building a serious engine for a Impalla. It consist of a 396 LT4 shortblock with Dart 215 heads we converted over for reverse cooling. We also CNC machined an LT4 intake manifold to accept a hidden direct port nitrous jetted for a 300 hp. The motor alone will make well over 500 at the flywheel. Call if you want more info.

I am putting down 468 currently with my 383 LT4. I have AFR 227 heads with a LT4 intake. I have a custom ground cam. It should be making close to or above 500 at the wheels, but we are having some igniton problems. I have LS1 coils on it as well. We just can't fine the grimiline in the wiring.

Quite a few folks making over 400 to the wheels with mildly ported heads and GTP6 or GM847 on stock displacement.

Sc65ooter.....that guy is full of p00p. Not going to happen....after the 175 yes, before.....HIGHLY doubtful.

550's only about 460 rwHP... I wouldn't doubt it's possible.

I appreciate the input, I actually go to S.A.M so I will do the work myself. I was at your shop today 8/25 I was the guy with the shaved head, you guys have some very impressive stuff and will keep you in mind for any questions if you don't mind. All opinions are appreciated.

My car makes 439rwhp through a 9" and 4.71 gears. 355, ported lt1 heads, lt1 intake, stock crank, good rods/pistons, solid roller cam. I'm upgrading to lt4s as we speak. If your going bigger cubes with an agressive setup you should be able to get 500+ very very easy. Pick your heads(or porter) wisely..thats where the power is and plan your combo out..don't just throw stuff together and hope for the best.
