Default California Lt1 owners and LT4 Hotcam owners...

Well as a fair share know, I'm moving to Cali, so this makes my mod bug jitters even more of a pain in the ***, cause I cant simply get what I want I have to work around emissions. (><) ...

So the question this time....is the LT4 Hotcam emissions legal?...and if so should I still pass the california emissions standards tests with this set up.....

1. Shorty headers to y pipe (with AIR and EGR hook ups)
2. High Flow Cat
3 Magnaflow Catback
4. Port n Polished LT1 heads
5. LT4 Hotcam with 1.6 rockers

....and i believe thats it. Anybody know if this would work with California's over the wall expectations?

As always thanks guys for the help.

I'm not from Cali, but doesn't the hotcam have an LSA of 112 which would pretty much give you a good chace of failing because of that?

Its not legal technically, but as long as the PCMs tuned, the car has cats and can pass visual it should be fine.

Now would a mail order tune work?...or will it have to be a real dyno tune to perfection?

and bringing up the LSA is a good question...even with a perfect tune will the lsa be a problem? i mean that as in a low lsa puts out more gas doesnt?

I wouldn't take the risk. You can get a better cam that will have a LSA of 114 that should pass emmissions.

I just checked out ls1speed.com and saw one of the comp cams they list as being bigger with an LSA of 114. Thunderracing.com also will have some cams for you.

Sucks being in emmission controlled areas

It absolutely does suck!.. In any event i think i may have found a way out of it....

Im going there for college, im going to stay with my mother while im there... My father and I are agreeing that if I dont declare residency and continue to go to school out there , as long as im in school ( up to 4 yours though) im still technicaly a resident of oklahoma city. Which come to think of it, was how it was when i went to school in miami. So if im still a resident of Oklahoma, and just a student, then i dont have to register my car. And as long as i dont get a drivers license there, insurance there, or anything like that i should be able to get away with this for 4 years... because well eventually after school ill declare residency.

The only problem is by not declaring residency, i have to pay out of state tuition fees...but then i was just told that id have to live in california for 2 years before i get in state discounts.

So im going to check all of this out...and if god willing..

HERE I COME GM847, PORTED HEADS and LONG TUBES!

I called comp cams a couple of minutes ago...they said the duration would fail me before an LSA on a cam like that did.

Yes the LT4 will pass. I have a few friends that live in cali and they all have hot cams, CC304,5,6's. They all pass the sniffer with good tuning and the cats still on.

You should try looking into the regional board area, I had questions about something like this too and those guys really helped

I passed with the cc305, and have come across several that run the lt4 hotcam in CA. Also, if you look around on the boards, you'll see a lot of guys running huge setups. I need more though now. I either want to go SC or do something along the lines of the LE2 and hope to find some smog help. I understand what you're saying about putting money into other people's pockets, but if you think about it, modding and having fun on these cars means that you'll be dishing out money one way or another.

Haha, yeah but if im not gonna pass consecutively every year, that means i gotta pay every year....and im not gonna 'rent' horsepower for my car..haha, besides the whole point is i WANT to be street legal, not just pass.

A normal smog test will usually run $100-$200. If you get a "test only" you're looking at $300-$400 to pass. You could probably find someone to do it cheaper, but I haven't really shopped around much.
