Exclamation What Cam For New 383??

Well, the 383 shortblock is on the way and I am still undecided on what cam to run. I am leaning towards the CC306 cam beacuse I have heard it is one of the most aggresive cams you can have and still maintain some streetability. The heads on the stroker are LT1 ported heads with cc springs, retainers, and 1.6 roller rockers. I want a really agressive cam that makes big top end power and decent low end. But keep in mind since these are ported LT1 heads I can only flow so much air at 5500 rpm +. So getting to big of a cam will do me no good until I get the AFR heads I want. Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

My old cam i had in my 383 was a 236/242 .585/.595 on a 112. I have AFR 227 heads but i have seen that cam make 430 at the ground on stock ported heads.

Actually, the cc306 will be more tame because you are adding cubic inches. Most of the people you talked to have prolly had it in a stock bottom end. Adding cubic inches makes a cam act smaller, so in theory, you need that much bigger of a cam to make it act the same in a 383. Also, about your cam being to big for LT-1 castings, that couldn't be farther from the truth. A bigger cam will actually help poorer flowing heads. It's when you get really good flowing heads that you should back down on the cam size. I would reccomend a 242/248 XE Comp cam with 2 degrees of advance ground in on a 112 LSA.

I think you should also consider how big of a shot your going to spray and how often you plan of spraying. How often do you plan on driving the car?

Well, its going to be daily driven, but when I go to the track im planning on running around a 150 shot. I just want a really good cam that gives me some mean top end power and still get reasonable power down low

I was looking and I found a cam from Comp. Its an LT1 Xtreme Energy Solid Roller Cam. The specs are: Dur@.050 248-254 | Lift .576-.582 | LSA 112 | RPM Range 3000-7000. sounds like something im looking for. Im just wondering if the comp springs can wind that high at 7000rpm. With the cam that was in the 350 and the spring i was winding her to around 6500.

Yeh, 7000rpm is pretty steep, Im looking for a cam that makes peek power around 6200-6500. Something a little more valve train friendly. I found this cam
Comp Cams LT1 Xtreme Energy Solid Roller Cams Dur@.050 242-248 | Lift .570-.576 | LSA 112 | RPM Range 2500-6500.

The cam I mentioned above should fit your needs perfectly. It will be a great N/A cam that still hits hard on the bottle. The top-end pull should be unreal and it should have no effect on the mid to low-end power. That's just one of the perks of having the 383, lots of low-end TQ.

Is there a reason that you've posted solid roller cams? Are you against HR cams for some reason?(custom grind cam!!)

well basically I didnt want over .600 of lift and I didnt want a 230/236 duration so there was really nothing with a good amount of duration with under .600 of lift and over like .560 so my friend and I were talking about what should be good and we came up with that... Hopefully it works out good I figure the duration should be good for the juice too

Had the 236/242 in my 383. Stage II heads from Combo Motorsports, N/A made numbers below in sig, SAE corrected numbers were 449/422 Cam had great power up to, and the torque kicked in kinda nice at 3200 it went over 380 RWtq and never went back below that. Too bad I had to sell it to buy my house.
