Default 1.7 Scorpions are in

I over nighted my 1.7's yesterday. Those things are huge . I had to clearance the stock valve covers, just in case. I used stock lenght pushrods, but harden ones from thunder. They have a rocker humm that can be heard from the other side of the traphic light . I adjusted and readjusted them three times. Twice 1/2 turn past 0 lash, then the third while the car was running, 1/4 turn after they shut up . The car pulls hard now 3500-5800. From what others have said they help alot and i should expect some better times or at least some mph. I will let ya know tomorrow after the track how much they helped.

Two weeks ago
Open Headers
13.3 @103.7
1.9 60ft

Last week
Headers and duals, with Ls1 ram air
13.1 @ 106.1
1.9 60ft

Estimated for tomorrow
1.7 RR, underdrive pulley, Retuning for the 1.7's
12.9 @ 108

Come on 12's. Its hard with an altitude of 3600ft, and a DA of 5500ft.

this is just to let eveyone else know, no problem yet, and she is faster

Sweeet, I have been wondering, and wanting, those 1.7 Scorpions. I have seen pic's of LT's with them on, but never heard anything about them. Please keep us posted on the new track times. Did you happen to change out your valve springs as well????

Hot cam springs .525

current lift on stock cam .510 .521

Old tack times
13.1 @ 106.1 1.95 60ft
( with a 20mph tail wind)

12.99@106.8 1.86 60ft
I think the oldtimes were inaccurate becasue of the tail wind??

I know the times done show much, but the car feels a noticable bit faster on the street. Also i am at high elivation, a camed Ls1 runs 13.1@ 108mph
I was only a car back on the street, form him, he pulled in fourth, but i'm sure his 4.10 gears over my stock gears, is where the differance is.

Stock Ls1 (street tires)
13.9 @ 101mph

Stock Lt1 (street tires)
14.6 @ 95mph

These SLOW times are because on a altitude of 3600ft and a density alt. of 5500ft.

The rockers helped alot! But mine didn't clear the valve covers! I had to bang out where they rubbed the underside. I used harden pushrods 7.2
with Gm guideplates.

Did you have the stock rocker arms on your car or did you go from 1.6 to the 1.7?

I' got the Crane 1.6 rr. Do you think that it would be worth replacing them with the 1.7??? Also is there a site where I can view the Scorpions

flatlanderracing.com is the web site $222.00

1.6 to 1.7 wont be much but it does change the lift on the cam so it will help just not as much as 1.5 to 1.7. If you have the cash to change i would, but only if you were going for a bolt on time slip. Because you could buy a cam for 250.00 and it doesn't put as much stress on the valve trane.

Well I've already have the LT4 hot cam, so I think the additional lift will help my cam. With that being the case I may have to worry about coil bind, because my heads are stock. I guess I just have to do more reseach with the set up that I have...

Change your springs for the .558 lift , then check your rockers so that they are in the center of the valve stems.

thats what i would do

good advice above, I'd also recommending checking the lateral roller tip positioning is centered on the vlv stems as well. 1.7's have a tendency to side wear the roller tip housing if the guide plates are not aligned properly. This is partly due to 1.7s being on the extreme side for lt1 valvetrain geometry, unlike the ls cars. If your using stock heads the GM LT4 guideplates supposedly better align than Comp, Crane, etc (on stock heads).
