Didnt keep mine but I've spent a boat load on the exhaust for my LS1 (QTP LT's catted y and GMMG) which is supposedly one of the best sounding you can buy for an LS1 and my old '97 had a more classic musclecar sound with BBK shorties and a magnaflow catback. IMO, you just can't beat the sound of an LT1.

For most of the reason others have stated: paid cash for the car, pay cash for mods, fun car to drive on the street and the priceless look of a guy in 02 WS6 when I drove right by him down the 1/4.

Doesn't help that you're always listening to my car and Dave's car.

cause it's the last muscle car motor

LS1 motors are sports car motors...in my opinion anyway. To me that's a HUGE difference.

I second that. I'm glad there are others out there that feel the same way I do about my lt1. Especially you guys who own or have owned ls1s.

1. it is paid off.

2. its a 96ss, which i feel is the best looking 4rth gen. when you see the ss hood coming it just looks baddass.

3. i loved the feeling of torque no matter where at in the rpm range you are at. gotta love the 20-30 mph punches in second that just light the tires up.

4. the sound.

5. i love the looks on people faces when they get beat and cant understand because "lt1s arent supposed to be fast"

Agreed with point 2. I'm getting a 97 SS project car soon.

I have had my 96 for 5 years, and personally, I am getting tired of it. I have replaced the opti, 3 caps and rotors in 6 months, 2 clutches within a year(the first wasn't done by me) and now the water pump. It just seems like everytime I turn around, something is going wrong. I also have been chasing this surging down forever, that a MSd seemed to help, but not cure. I take very good care of it, and its a stock engine. I think later on, I'll step up to a firebird with a LS1, just to see how I do. Alot of people say that LS1 parts are high, but I remember when the LT1's first came out alot of the parts were high too. I have a buddy that runs 6.86 in the 8th with his LT1 bird, maybe I just got a bad one.

Well being an owner of both right now, I do really enjoy my LT1, but it is nowhere near the car my LS1 is...Stock for stock or mod for mod (they're basically equal mod-wise except the LS1 also has headers), my LS1 would absolutely RAPE my LT1 at any speed (and my LT1 is definitely quick!).

I just honestly don't know why so many people say the LT1 feels stronger down low or is some big torque monster around town??? My LT1 has 3.73 gears and does have some pep to it down low, but my LS1 feels every bit as torquey and just pulls 10x harder once the revs start to build. And I've been in several other LT1's and I've never noticed this supposed difference in torque down low between the two. Although I will say the LS1 does have a more smoother, refined feel to it through the powerband...

I do like the nose of both (especially an LT1 SS-style hood ), but the pre 98's are really starting to look outdated to me while the 98+ just have a much more modern, sleek look...

The one thing I will give the LT1 is the great exhaust sound. Can't beet that deep muscle car rumble it has with the right set-up! Although my LS1 with LT headers & GMMG sounds better/deeper to me than any LT1 with a Borla or LM set-up using headers/no cats...

I HAVE BOTH ENGINES AS WELL. THE '94 IS MY LOVE, BUT MY '02 IS MY LUST!!! THE LT1 FEELS RAW AND IT RUMBLES MEAN AS SIN, BUT I WILL SAY THAT THE 'HAWK WILL STILL BE MY STREET RACE WEAPON OF CHOICE I WILL NEVER SELL THE '94 AND WILL PROBABLY DO A BUDGET REBUILD AND ADD THE PARTS I HAVE NOW PLUS A CHEAP POWERDYNE BLOWER. ANY OTHER CAR I PURCHASE WILL MOST LIKELY BE ANOTHER 4TH GEN

No clue, I use to know but dont any more. I have had the car for a long time and its apid for, thats the only reason I can think of. I have a buddy whos the mod on the Texas section, he pulled 360rwhp out of his 01 TA through manifolds, cats and only mods being a closed Borla, ls6 cam, lid and tunning. If you tear in to an LT1 in the way of forced induction, they can make bad *** cars. But I have had mine for a while, I just sort of dont know why I kept it any more.

think you got that beat??

Well mine has 160+k miles on it, I've owned it for about 4 years now(92k miles when I bought it). It gave me a few problems around 120k(the waterpump/opti combo), but since then its just been 2 defective Mcleod Clutches(not the cars fault). The car runs great, I've gone on several 1000 mile trips this year and it hasnt given me a single problem. I get done with school in March and I plan on buying a little beater. Then some serious mods/a paintjob will occur.
