Default Need fuel specs for LT1

Can someone tell me what the reading of an 97 LT1 fuel pressure should be? My buddy just got a fuel pressure gauge and was wondering what lbs. it should be reading at. This is a stock motor with some bolt ons. Thanks!

key on engine off 38-41psi

engine running vacuum removed from the FPR should go up 3-8psi
key off engine off pressure should hold around 38psi

When my Key is off my fuel pressure drops to 0psi, almost instantly.

Wonder what the problem is their. I do know it use to hold pressure before I installed the Aeromotive adj Fuel Regulator. I have 2 of these and one is brand new. They both do it. Any Ideas?

do you have a visible leak? if it falls that fast theres a leak somewhere.. with the car running pull the vacuum line off the regulator and see if theres fuel comming out of it, if you can pinch off the return line and if it still drops to 0 then it's either the regulator or one of the injectors. if it doesnt fall then it's the pumps check valve.

Im thinking its the Pumps check valve. Would this cause any harm?
I dont have any visible leaks and the AFPR isnt leaking. Have good fuel pressure. Its possible it could be my Injectors. Im using Accell 30lb injectors I bought new 2 years ago.

to my understanding this will not cause a problem but i could be wrong. the only down fall that i can think of is if the fuel is leaving the bucket through the check valve it may not cool down the pump while the car is sitting but if you keep more than 1/4 of gas and the fuel is going back to the tank so it should be alright 2 of my z's have had that problem and nothing bad has happen you got proper fuel pressure and flow.

i also had a problem w/ my pressure dropping off rapidly after the initial prime up, i chased it back down to the fuel hosing that was clamped to the pump in the pickup. Just remember when installing the aftermarket pump, to tighten the shyt out of the corrogated plastic tubing w/ a good clamp, if you do that= no leaks. but on a more serious note, check the vacuum source for the regulator, does it smell like fuel, or drip fuel? if so, the regulator is shot. i've also heard things about the aeromotive's leaking. not too sure on what causes this. good luck, happy hunting.

Where did you come up with those numbers? Engine idling & vacuum hose off should be 45/47 psi. Pressure drop with the hose on depends on your manifold vacuum.

Take care, Ed

i gave him a range to work from i didn't give exact #'s and if hes running at 39 psi and pulls the line off then he will be at 47.. i've owned 3 LT1's and all the stock fuel pressure's were different and they all went up to different psi's.. i didn't know the condition of his fuel system so i was giving ranges.. mine runs @45 with vacuum and @51 without..

Key on & engine off there is no vacuum, pressure should go to about 45 psi & hold.

Ed
so if it goes to 38 and holds but at start up it goes to 41 does that mean we have a bad pump?? haynes manual says 38-41 with key on engine off and thats what i experienced with my latest Z so thats why i said 38-41.

Don't know, I have never seen one that low. Mine have always gone right to 45 psi or so. All the LT1 cars we have tested here, when doing dyno work, have done the same. The manual also says 9 psi is good for a throttle body pickup, but they won't run worth a dime that low. My TA had 120,000 miles on the original pump & regulator, it went right to 46 psi when you turned the key on.

Good luck, Ed
