Default CC-306 Cam Questions.

I ordered a set of edelbrock heads, and I am wanting to go with a cc-306 after much discussion with people here. What kind of idle can I expect? I am looking for a decent amount of lope. Would it also be ok to run a set of roller tipped rockers with this combo. It's looking like I might want to change valve springs to but, not quite sure yet. I have 4:10's in the car and will also be putting a converter in it soon. I know opinions here vary widely on the converter issue. But, for more street than track use what would be the best converter for a daily driver. I also just finished the OBD1 conversion this last weekend. later and thanks

If you are currently running stock valvesprings, you must upgrade to "higher lift" springs when you do the cam. Roller Rockers would work fine, youd see more of a gain with them over the stock stamped steel rockers as well. As for the converter, the tighter the converter, the better it is gonna be for daily driving but on the other hand, if youre going to put in a really tight converter, its not really worth the hassle. Im using a 3500 stall and its very streetable. Some might think otherwise though. The cc306 is gonna have a choppy idle...should sound great.

Like Branbo said, you MUST change springs. no 2 ways about it. the 306 will have a noticable lope bu the lsa is not that radical.
IMO, the converter for that cam would be 3500 with those gears. It also depends on the str. A 2.5str/3500 would be great for you if you do street driving.

I had a cc 306 in my car, it sounded amazing!!!! Not radical but quit a bit of lope, 112lsa. Like sapper said a stall in a must, I had a 3200 vig and it worked perfect with the cam. I actually have a built tranny with a 3200 stall for sale. But you definetly need valve springs. Good luck

Would the cc-306 be a good cam for a daily driver? If not what cam should i look for? It will have a 100 wet shot on it. Car already has lt4 springs and 1.6 rockers. The heads have also been machined.

You'll need better springs for more lift than those LT4s can allow, get it tuned and it'll be fine

Do the edelbrock heads that are on the way have the correct springs or do I just need to get'em from comp cams and be done with it. I'm into it this deep so I doi not mind dropping a few extra coins.

30thz28 sprayed 150 on the cc306. It works well...not as optimal as a nitrous grind but better than a hotcam for sure. Should be okay. As far as the valve springs are concerned....the cam has .510" lift intake and .540" exhaust. With 1.6rrs that ups it a little bit so you need springs good up to .600" lift. Which depending on the springs that come with the heads may or may not need to be swapped. To the guy asking about putting forged pistons in his motor when swapping valve springs? A. if you can swap all 8 pistons with the motor still in the bay....kudos...thats a feat. B. Putting forged pistons will have no effect on the way the cam/ valvetrain performs. Just swap the springs and go...
