Default what kind of gains could be expected from porting stock LT1 heads?

a friend of mine has a 96 Z28 with longtubes, true duals, throttle body and a cai. a local shop quoted him 500 bucks to port his stock heads and we have heard the guy does badass head work. with a decent cam and his current mods, what kind of gains could be had with ported heads? thanks for any info.

Depends on the extent of the port work. A good set of stage III heads flows really damn well. I have a set of More Performance Stage IIIs that are supposed to flow 275-280 CFM. With a big cam, 400 RWHP is definately achieveable. Unfourtunately, I have a shioty Hot Cam and my Vette

As cast the LT1 heads are better than everything that came before them even the stuff with bigger valves, with competent porting they only get better and are a great choice for a 350, people are mcuh too quick to want to swap them out.

Yep. Stock heads are good for 400+++ easily. Get some good valves too. should be able to get 400 rwhp with a decent cam, not too big.

Well, I gained exactly 41 RWhp with a set of GTP Stage 2 heads, I already had a HOT cam installed. BUT, I increased my compression about 1 full point at the same time. The compression increase was probably good for 10-15 HP, so the ported heads were worth 25-30 rwwhp.

Get your heads ported, and the intake ported. Get LE3 heads and a LE2 cam and you'll be at 400 hp no doubt. Also get your intake ported to match the flow and you'll be all set. The heads/cam will work better with:

30 or 36# injectors
3.73 or higher gears
3200+ stall
LT's
no cats
GOOD tuning

What about valve increase? I have a friend at a local performance shop who is a machinist. I can get all the work done for close to nothing so I planned on a port/polish 2.02 int./1.60 exh.
