running rich
running rich My car is definetly running rich. Is there anything I can do to lean it out without having it tuned? I have a hypertech installed on it right now, and I want to sell it, and get pcmforless tuning. Can he lean in out for me? Thanks.

put a lower octane gas? after posting some threads here, i looked at the factory manual, it suggested 91 or higher octane for best performance, but said not to worry about 87 or 89.
i did it on my TA to pass emissions, my tailpipe isnt nearly as filthy as it was with 93 (perhaps the previous owner did tuning?)

I would not recommend running 87 octane. To make your car leaner, you will almost definatly need a tune, although I don't see anything in your sig that would make you run rich enough to notice though

would make it run rich in a fuel injected car, lean in a carburated car. rich in FI because the exhaust gas ratio is thrown off and since outside air is now accesible to the headers, the O2's read that the car isnt getting enough fuel for the amount of air and dumps more fuel. that is a very basic torn down description but in essence that is what is happening.
hrm, that exhaust leak makes sense. I have a header leak, that i've tried to fix multiple times by changing the gaskets. Had Mr. Gasket's on there and they blew out completly. Most recently I have felpros on, and they're still leaking. I think the headers are either not flat, or theres crap in b/w the block and the headers. So that would make it run rich... well that makes sense. Thats a lot
