are you looking at them sitting on the counter or are you having actual problems fitting them in the pockets with the valves?

also why are you stepping up to that spring with the factory cam?

With standard locks these will install shorter than they are speced so +.050 locks are usually a good idea, the 918s are just silly for a stock cam the 915s are adequate for most of the milder aftermarket cams, going with the 918s will negate any benifit you might have seen going from standard to beehive springs as the big benifit is the bility to run less pressure to control the same cam.
As for the tall free height that is what any progressive spring will be like be it suspension or otherwise.

That's about right....when you compress it during installation it should settle down however and be normal height.

What about when, your cam grinder says to install the springs at a certain height, like 1.75"....Any help with that guys? (using 918 springs)

I know on iron heads it takes +.050 locks to get close to that with your spring seats in the aluminum I am not sure. LSx motors are usually 1.80 and that is what these springs are rated at, normal installed height for most springs is 1.70 on gen1/2 motors.
