i agree with z28skillz a4 is the way to go if your planning on racing from a dead stop but on the other hand most of the races that you end up in are from a role and thats were the stick comes in. oh and its alot more fun to drive.

An automatic with a high stall TC eliminates the dead spots in the 4L60E form a roll, so that really isn't a good argument for the T-56.

Streetability really epends on the manufacturer. My baby 2400 stall on my LT1 vastly improved my going from a roll.

yeah my 2800 improved my car also, im thinkin your talking about a 3200 or 3500 stall i think my T56 is better from a roll then my auto expecially with some gears in the rear of that M6 car it's gonna pull like crazy.

So you guys are saying an auto with a stall can take a geared t-56 from a roll with one extra gear on hand? also with the same hp? no the a4 has more drivtrain loss...

the M6 has other advantages also... when i did my swap... i raced a friend's car and saw him drop back everytime i shift gears.. and chirp a lot.. the T56 can handle a lot... i was power shifting like a **** too...

Depending on the setup, sure.

I used to think A4 was a total terd on a roll (i have one) and the ohter night me and by buddies all wheel drive/stick/turbo/ too much 2 list dsm.... ran from the line and from a roll....... on the roll usually any stick down to v6 stang takes off well on me but I got risky and slammed down into second and gave her gas and watched her take off like i'd never done before.... I just thought I'd toss that out there for the A4's..... I'd like an M6 but i enjoy all the benefits described by the A4 camp...

Stall and the right gears can make an a4 more adequate from a roll, but rolls are for ricers . Do it from a dig! 4l60e's are weak IMO and past dealings , I am on #4. Some of this was from the build though.

fun to drive
shorter gears
less power loss through tranny

breaks 10 bolts!
not so efficient if you are just learning
traffic sucks with the heavy clutches in the F-bodies

Well....I'd have to disagree with quite a few of these....don't know if anyone else has since I only saw this post.

A4:
More efficient. Efficient in what way? More power loss = less efficiency to me, worse gas mileage does as well.

Won't break stock rear. Tell that to my rear that went the way of the Dodo.

With proper stall, better 60's. Completely untrue....especially at the level's that the average joe blow are at. Too many manual's out there who are short timing the hell out of me and I have a great stall. Of course I don't have a T400 with a brake I can get all up on, but that's an entirely different can of worms.

The fun and not as fun are completely subjective....some folks may not find it fun to have to change gears all of the time.

M6:

Breaks 10 bolts. Again....it really depends, sure it's easier to break a stock 10 bolt with an M6 but I know quite a few people who launch harder than I on slick with an M6 and their rear's are still going strong where mine was gone a long time ago.

Again....what do you mean by efficient?

Traffic sucks with heavy clutches? How about stop and go sucks more with all M6's as opposed to A4's?

While I am a big proponent of A4's as I've had them in my last two Camaro's, I'm sick of the weakness and other problems of the 4L60E and have seen the light of the T56.

There are also several other pro's and con's that you didn't hit such as ability to handle X amount of HP/TQ, cost of rebuilds (especially a 4L60E's cost that still can't compare to what a T56 can handle), the price of TC's in addition to a rebuild as opposed to the price of a good clutch on a stock T56, etc etc etc.

I daily drive a 3600 yank, VERY streetable. Used to get 17-18mpg in the city with it, 3.73's, and my heads/cam setup. Only people who don't think high stalls are streetable are the ones who don't completely understand how a stall works, or have ridden in a car with a CHEAP big stall.

GhostZ, if your getting beat in the 60ft area a lot by 6 speed guys you need to learn to drive and/or setup your car better. A stalled auto(well a good stall not a cheapo one) should out 60ft 95% of the 6 speed guys, but you'll always have those few 6 speed guys with the right setup that can hook a car hard.

It all depends on the setup. I get consistent 1.9's on street tires and 1.6's on slicks with the ocassional high 1.5, but a blanket statement that a good stall will outlaunch a manual is stretching it. On mild setups, I agree completely but the bigger the build the less of an advantage the stall is. Plenty of manual folks hitting 1.3's all day long.

Like I said....with the average person's setup an auto will outlaunch a manual more often than naught but when you start getting into bigger and better setups you won't see as big, if any of a difference at the line between the auto and the manual. I love auto's which is why I've had them in this Camaro and my old one but the pro's for the manual outweigh the cons by a large margin when it comes to holding the power I'm putting down.

And I think my driving is just fine....12.7 at over 9K DA on street tires with a stock displacement H/C LT1 seems to be doing me just fine. We'll see how the new turbo setup works with the M6.

I just got my 3200 stall in and it's alot fun. I also had my tranny upgraded with a few new thing. Z Pak, upgraded sun shell, trans go kit, kev super duty 2-4 powerband, vb separator plate and upgraded 4th servo piston

Know it shift a hell of alot fast than before. If you go with the auto i would recommend the converter and trans upgrades.

ok, i'm reading and learning here. So what will the cost be for the average swap of an a4 to a m6. How exactly do you drive the stall converters? How do you avoid the stall when driving normally in the street? i like both but i have never driven a m6 and i have never ridin in a car with a tc. Has anyone found pros and cons with vigilant tc's?? that's who my eyes were on.

Also, chevy94c, how much did those upgrades cost for your tranny? just curious
