Manual or Automatic

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
pros:
easy to launch
more efficient
wont break 10 bolt
with proper stall.. more capable of better 60foots than M6
cons:
not as fun to drive
longer gears
M6 pros and cons:
pros:
fun to drive
shorter gears
less power loss through tranny
cons:
breaks 10 bolts!
not so efficient if you are just learning
traffic sucks with the heavy clutches in the F-bodies
Well....I'd have to disagree with quite a few of these....don't know if anyone else has since I only saw this post.
A4:
More efficient. Efficient in what way? More power loss = less efficiency to me, worse gas mileage does as well.
Won't break stock rear. Tell that to my rear that went the way of the Dodo.
With proper stall, better 60's. Completely untrue....especially at the level's that the average joe blow are at. Too many manual's out there who are short timing the hell out of me and I have a great stall. Of course I don't have a T400 with a brake I can get all up on, but that's an entirely different can of worms.
The fun and not as fun are completely subjective....some folks may not find it fun to have to change gears all of the time.
M6:
Breaks 10 bolts. Again....it really depends, sure it's easier to break a stock 10 bolt with an M6 but I know quite a few people who launch harder than I on slick with an M6 and their rear's are still going strong where mine was gone a long time ago.
Again....what do you mean by efficient?
Traffic sucks with heavy clutches? How about stop and go sucks more with all M6's as opposed to A4's?
While I am a big proponent of A4's as I've had them in my last two Camaro's, I'm sick of the weakness and other problems of the 4L60E and have seen the light of the T56.
There are also several other pro's and con's that you didn't hit such as ability to handle X amount of HP/TQ, cost of rebuilds (especially a 4L60E's cost that still can't compare to what a T56 can handle), the price of TC's in addition to a rebuild as opposed to the price of a good clutch on a stock T56, etc etc etc.
GhostZ, if your getting beat in the 60ft area a lot by 6 speed guys you need to learn to drive and/or setup your car better. A stalled auto(well a good stall not a cheapo one) should out 60ft 95% of the 6 speed guys, but you'll always have those few 6 speed guys with the right setup that can hook a car hard.
Like I said....with the average person's setup an auto will outlaunch a manual more often than naught but when you start getting into bigger and better setups you won't see as big, if any of a difference at the line between the auto and the manual. I love auto's which is why I've had them in this Camaro and my old one but the pro's for the manual outweigh the cons by a large margin when it comes to holding the power I'm putting down.
And I think my driving is just fine....12.7 at over 9K DA on street tires with a stock displacement H/C LT1 seems to be doing me just fine.
We'll see how the new turbo setup works with the M6. Know it shift a hell of alot fast than before. If you go with the auto i would recommend the converter and trans upgrades.
Also, chevy94c, how much did those upgrades cost for your tranny? just curious

i guess im a ricer.....
o well....
