Manual or Automatic
I am looking to by a 1994-1997 LT1 Camaro with about 50,000-70,000 miles. I have a friend who has a 1995 z28 with catback, K&N, a shift kit, and a performance chip. I really like the way it drives, and it is very quick. Although I would rather go through the gears manually, but i'm not a very experienced stick driver. As of right now I own a 1991 z28 350 tpi with a good amount of mods, and am planning to sell this to get the LT1.
Now, do the m6 LT1s perform better in any way than the a4's? I know a m6 LS1 performs damn good and seems to be better from a roll than an a4(not to mention looks more fun to drive). I also know that the LT1s do not have as much power at their dispense as an LS1, so how do they perform from a roll in an m6 compared to an a4? Also, what are the a4's pros and cons, and the m6's pros and cons? If I were to buy a m6, it would be my first time owning a manual, and i'm not too experienced at driving them, so it would kind of be a learning experience.
All input appreciated, thank you.

A4 pros and cons:
pros:
easy to launch
more efficient
wont break 10 bolt
with proper stall.. more capable of better 60foots than M6
cons:
not as fun to drive
longer gears
M6 pros and cons:
pros:
fun to drive
shorter gears
less power loss through tranny
cons:
breaks 10 bolts!
not so efficient if you are just learning
traffic sucks with the heavy clutches in the F-bodies

They perform very similarly in stock form, the biggest difference is the amount of abuse they can take. The T56 is damn near unbreakable without a power adder, the 4L60/E won't put up with quite as much **** but is pretty tough for an automatic (especially when compared to those in the Mustangs).
There will be slight differences in performance. For example, an M6 will usually trap higher due to it's putting down more power than the A4, and an A4 will usually run a quicker E/T due to the quicker shifting. Keep in mind these differences are minimal at best though.

I have decided that I will just get whatever I can find with good miles for a good price. You have convinced me that both have their advantages and disadvantages. I would love to be banging through the gears, but then again it would get kind of old when in traffic, especially since i'm not a very experienced manual driver. So i'm just going to get what is the best deal and work from there.

Hands down an auto is better for drag racing and the stick better for street driving (except in traffic), or road coursing. I have the stick because I blew the automatic up and didnt want to deal with bulletproffing it to hold up. The stick is hard to drive well at the track....I was beat by an automatic friday night who only trapped 114!
You have to decide what youre gonna use the car for......me, I drive it. I go to the track maybe 4-5 times a season, so I did not want to sacrifice the fun factor for another .5 at the track.

The main reason I'd buy an M6 car would be the strength of the tranny rather than the fun of rowing through the gears.

Maybe its just me but stompin down one pedel and haulin *** seems to be more fun then gas, clutch, and trying to find your gears. They are both a good choice, just get whichever u think best suits you. If you end up with a A4, grab a torque converter and so much for the M6's faster from a roll stuff
