Default nitrous pistons and the amount they can withstand?

I think one of je nitrous pistons shows it can withstand a 250 shot of nitrous. Well I think a stock 1994 LT1 is rated at 275 horsepower, what if after you put in new cams and ported the heads and now your vehicle is rated at lets say 400 horsepower, those pistons wouldn't be able to handle that amount of a shot now would it???

Why not? The pistons would not be the weakest part of that engine. I have a set of JE Nitrous pistons in a LT1 383.

I think the piston will be more than fine, its the rods and the possibly the crank that I would worry about more.... also your fuel system. I am running SRP forged -16cc dished pistons that are matched to 6" rods in my 383. I may go to JE's if I am worried about the ring packs and ring lands being too close to the wrist pin.

I think any forged piston would be fine with proper fueling, correct timing, and the appropriate safety measures.

There are guys running over 400hp NA +250 and more nitrous on stock bottomends with suprizing reliability.
Any company selling a "nitrous" piston and rating it at 250hp shot is going to be figuring on it being a built and powerful motor before the spray.

I was thinking after I left, that reliability has much to do with timing, the amount of fuel, octane of the fuel, as well as other factors. Most of us drive these cars on the street and are not lucky enough to get fuel octane better than 93, and in california 91 octane.

So making it reliable, and safe with 93 octane is the magic question in how much a piston can take.

I ran off the shelf SRP 396 pistons last year and put a 250 shot through it all year long. Maybe 20 bottles. I would have taken it to 350 if the fuel soleniods were bigger. You have to have fairly good parts and assembly but other than that it's all in the tune.

Any NOS specific piston would certainly be safe at that level with a good tune but be more careful with the regular SRPs etc and make sure your rings are opened up for what you are making. You could also go to the hellfire series of rings if you run that much NOS a lot.
