Magnaflow, relatively quiet deep sound while cruising but sounds like a NASCAR once you get on it. 396 with LT4 top end, CC306 and FLP long tubes with off road pipes. Once you put the cats on, it quiets down considerably.

It's likely because of a number of factors:

LT1 = Iron block
LS1 = Aluminum block

They have different firing orders(I don't know the exact orders off the top of my head, but search if you like)

The LT1 and LS1 do not have identical camshafts or heads(obviously) so that will definitely change how the already outlined differences are affected.

A fair share of LS1s came from the factory with an SLP exhaust(SS)

And I'm not positive but I'm willing to bet they don't have the same sized valves.

That's why I like it as well. I live in a densely populated area so sometimes (like late at night) I don't want to be obnoxiously loud, but it still has good volume when you open it up.

It's funny how subjective exhaust sounds are. I don't think the Borla and GMMG sound anything alike on an LS1. The GMMG sounds 10,000,000 times better IMHO!

GMMG is the company. http://www.gmmginc.net/. There exhaust is chambered and is almost a true dual but not quite. It sound amazing, very throaty and deep just like a 60's muscle car. These exhaust systems were used on the Berger Camaros, Intimidators, BlackBirds etc. It cost $700 for standard tips and $850 for the oval stainless tips which looks super hott. Go to ls1sounds.com to hear soundclips of it, sounds SICK, in my opinion probaly the best catback for a F-Body.

Yea its $700 for cat-back so yea y-pipe back. Borla, Corsa, Stainless are also in that $700plus range. Reason is there made of good stainless steel and are quality pieces and Borla and GMMG in particular sound freaken amazing. You can get many catbacks for under $500 and even $400 tho such as Magnaflow, SLP loudmouth, Hooker, etc. etc.

Have any of you guys compared a cutout to an SLP LM? Do they sound exactly the same as I've been led to believe or is there a bit of a tone difference?

I had a cutout before the bend in the rear on my slp loudmouth. It was louder in the cabin because of where it exited, plus the loudmouth has more of a tone to it.

I have SLP LM II on my car and it's awesome. Can't wait to hear it when I though Long tube headers and a Y-pipe on it.

http://media.putfile.com/MOV0022148 -Corsa Video (sorry about really no picture, it was at night time)

http://media.putfile.com/Pacesetter-...-SLP-Loudmouth -SLP Loudmouth

Both of the videos above are on my 97Z-28 (pacesetter longtubes, and ory)

My vote is for the corsa. i really like how it sounds. real quiet at idle and starts to open up when u get on it, and the tips look amazing!! the loudmouth was just plain loud, from idle all the way to redline. i found myself being threatened by my neighborhood police officers all the time after the headers and ory. i do love the sound of the borla though. and the gmmg i think is loud but it sounds good doing it. now what im going to buy, is a cutout/with electric motor for when i want to be obnoxious and when i want to have a conversation its quiet at the flip of a switch.
