You can just pick up a complete 3.42 rear for a couple hundred bucks. I don't see why the 3.42's wouldn't go in that housing though.

actually they might be referring to you having a 2 series carrier (cars with 2.73s had them) and stock 3.42s wont fit on it cause they are from a 3 series carrier, but aftermarket 3.42s made for a 2 series will work

Yep, that's exactly right. You can get Richmond Gears for either series carrier from Summit and I am sure Jeg's.

When doing a gear swap, it's more then worth your time and money to get a shop to do the work for you. That way they will get the proper gear replacement for you. But just wondering why are you wantinng a 3:42? Why not a 3:73? You'll drop almost a full second off of your 1/4 time....

Yeah forgot to mention let the pros set your gears up. Make sure they have the right tools! Just putting gears in will be nails on a chalkboard for your ears.

I think he means going from 2.73's to 3.73.

I personally went cheap. Found a used 10 bolt from an M6 car, to my advantage they had already welded spohn LCA relocation brackets to it. So I was good to go for $40.

z28boy is right your rea should be a 2 series carrier, u have to find a set of 3.42 2 series, or just go get a 3.23 or higher rear. I got a 3.23 rear with T/C for about 150 bucks, at a local junk yard, then put my new gears in.
