BLOCK machine?!

How much should I expect to pay for a block to have four bolt main caps, with a full machine job? I am building a 383 stroker. Anyone think I should just do a heads/cam and no stroker? Think I could drive a stroker with the same reliability of a non stroker? The car is a 96 ss impala, built 4l60E, stall, 3.73s......

I would have paid $900 for the line hone, bore, deck, and 4 bolt splayed main caps... Only $500 if I didnt to the 4bolt mains.

Buying the caps with studs, and having everything done (modifying the block to accept the caps, align hone, deck both banks, bore the block, boil it, install cam bearings, install freeze plugs, etc, etc) will typically put you just over a grand. Of course prices will vary from machine shop to machine shop, but your looking at around a grand to $1200.

I know this post was from awhile ago, but the quotes I was getting was in the range of $1500 to $2000.But I'm have a hook up at a machine shop that does big block V8's all day long for boats. Getting done for like $400.

good news today, short block will be done by this wed! Gonna pick it up the following weekend. Then another two weeks until the heads are done....man this is gonna be sweet.
