anybody running msd digital 6 plus ignition?
if so how hard was it to wire and would you recomend it over the 6-AL. im looking at it or the nitrous retard option and increased spark, plus all the other great features.

I've bought one, but havent installed it yet.
From what I've seen, you can use the same harness that the 6A and 6AL box uses. So it should not be any harder to wire up, than those 2 boxes, with the exception of wiring up the additional functions that the digit 6 box has.
You can always go over to the MSD Ignition websight. They have the wiring diagrams and instructions for all their products online.

What are the definitive signs that the aftermarket boxes cause problems with the optis?
I've ran an MSD box on my 93 since 96 and have only had to replace 1 opti (non-vented), back in 98 - I pulled it off in 03 and it looked great.
My buds LT1 has had a 6A box since 98 with the same opti - looked at it last month while trouble shooting another problem - and it looked great as well.
Only thing that I saw on these optis was a little wear on the cap, at the inside of the post. Nothing very bad - might consider replacing the cap and rotor every 50k or so while running a high fire box, but I don't feel that's too much to ask.

I didnt see any real gain from the Dig6 on my car. I think the stock ignition does a good job for spark strength. like said above less problems. They will burn your coils up quick.

Even with a '96 or newer ignition system on the LT1's that was improved over the '95 and earlier models, the stock ignition does have trouble over 6,000rpm. If you are making a decent amount of power over stock and spinning the motor then it is well worth the money. As stated above, for forced induction/N20 it is pretty beneficial.

Not necessarily. my friend has had the same 6AL box (now has a digital 6 on his current car) that he's put on every single car he's owned in the past, well the ones that were more performance oriented, and he documented that he always got better gas mileage with the box installed.
