Thats one thing thats nearly impossible to argue. The LT1 wins hands down in the sound department. I've heard many LT1's with just a catback, that sound better than my car with heads/cam and full exhaust.

I was thinking the same thing dragframe, only diff between you and me is you have one and I dont lol. I guess with the money you save on the lt1 than the ls1 you could make the lt1 faster than the ls1.

Seriously, the difference in power is attributed to the head designs of the two platforms. The LT1 has a traditional 23 degree valve angle where as the LS1 uses a 15 degree valve angle which is a big part of the reason they flow so much more and hence the power difference. The block design has really nothing to do with it. You can make an LT1 make just as much power. Don't believe me, check my sig and that's WITHOUT the 400 shot.

its all based on what the user wants. I think the LS1 is leaps and bounds better than the LT1. Reason: aftermarket. our poor LT1 has a small aftermarket look at FAST, AFR (even though they have LT1 heads), ET performance, and so on.
if you want big power relatively easily go with an LS1. the LT1 will get there too it takes a little more work.

youre not alone in feeling like you made a mistake. I feel like I did too. thats why my car is being torn apart and returned to stock then sold. I feel stupid when I tell someone what I have done to my car and then follow with "it ran a 12.6 @ 109." of course parts breakage, general bad luck, and changing my money spending priorities have made it so I wont ever hit my goal of 11s with the car.

and my car DID sound damn good, better than any LS1 ive ever heard.
Its high 330s for bolton LT1s and 380s for Cammed LT1s. Its in the dyno archive

Again I just wanted to say that I am more excited about owning an LT1 than ever. It seems as if there has been a Renaisance of sorts with the LT1 aftermarket. Companies like Eportworks and Advanced Induction have pushed the LTX designs to greater heights. Now 420+ RWHP H/C stock bottom end LT1 F-bodies are becoming the norm rather than the exception.

I think some of you guys just need to drive more angry. I ran the time in my sig in Topeka on about a 70* day. I don't even have my longtubes installed either and I'm keeping up or beating LS1s from a dig and from a roll. I've raced probably every stock or close to stock LS1 car in the city I live in and I've only lost to 3 cars; an M6 2002 SS with the SLP options, a I/H/E 98 T/A with a 3200 stall and 4.10s, and an M6 2002 Firehawk with drag radials. The SS was a good race, lost to him by about 1 car from a 20-120 race. I lost to the 98 T/A pretty badly, he probably had me by about 5 car lengths by the time we hit 110 and he was still pulling. I feel the Firehawk only beat me because he got the hole-shot because once we hit 2nd he didn't pull at all and beat me by about 3 cars.

dont waste money on your car if you want to buy a vette later, thats the mistake I did. I wanted a newer Z or TA but I had an LT1, so I kept dumping money into my LT1. my hindsight says I shouldve kept the firebird stock and saved up for a newer LS1 car. now Ive got nearly $8k that I wont ever see again that didnt get me anywhere.

if I were to use an LT1 still I wouldnt have gone the 383 route. I wouldve made a 355 with stock crank, forged rods and pistons. LE2 heads and cam, single plane intake converted by bret bauer. I figure with the money I spent now on the stroker crank and the ported LT1 intake I could put that towards the single plane conversion.

put a little in the lt1 and then put money in a savings account in the bank and get the money for the vette, you should be able to sell the lt1 for 5k at least to put you over the top for the vette

Just save up for the Vette. I have done that for every car I have owned. Never had a car payment It will take some time but its well worth it!

I was planning on getting a bike regardless.. becuase i realy enjoy riding more than anyhitng else in life... but im not sure... it would be nice to have th vette soon.

I believe the answer your looking for is in your own post(s). Go with what you love bro. Keep the T/A(keep it stock), buy the bike, and save for the Vette.

LT1s were good for their time and thats why I bought mine. But if I was 16 again and doing it again now with $9K to spend like I did in 00 on a F-car, I sure as hell wouldnt buy an LT1 over a LS1. LS1 is a better designed motor hands down, you start messing with forced induction or nitrous, then its just a matter of money and you can make either killer. You can still make an LT1 car run hard, but its so easy to do it with a LS1.
