Default My 383 Build Pictures for anyone interested

I finally had a chance to get a few pics of my buildup on the net. It is a Lunati 383 Solid roller, Diamond pistons, AFR 220's, LT4 intake, monoblade, and all the other misc. things to make it work. The car initially dyno'd 472rwhp @ 6,500rpm on the initial pulls with the opti crapping out. A dynaspark is on the way along with a speed density tune and we're hoping for 500rwhp in this setup. I am currently spinning the motor to 7,000 rpm on a factory PCM. The motor was built to go higher and hopefully with an aftermarket computer this spring we'll bump it up to 7,500. I'd like to thank Shane @ Thunder Racing and the TR crew for doing a great job on this build. The nitrous goes on in the spring.

Here are a few pics:

Thanks guys. I have the bills in a file folder. Twice I opened the folder, started adding, and stopped, closed it and put it away. I couldn't go through with it.

The cam is a comp billet grind 256/262 .650 lift.

I forgot to ask, what kind of valve covers are you going to be using?

I noticed you have stud girdles on the rocker arms, that is why I asked...

I would expect jsut about any tall cover out there would interfere with the alternator on the passenger side...

Personally, I never looked into it too far, even though I would love to run them, as I have a aftercooler and nothing but the stock height valve covers work with it...

I would do one of those coil overs conversions becasue I hate opti sparks. Coil overs are so much better. I can say this becasue I own a 93 Z28 and a 00 WS6.

I had the heads ordered from AFR with perimeter bolt valvecovers. I have a modified alternator bracket that puts the alternator where the A/C compressor used to be, so I can use any tall style SBC valvecovers.

Coil-overs are suspension pieces, coil-on-plug are ignition.

Coatings would probably set you back $1,500 or so. If I were to do it again, I'd have gotten the rods and crank done as well and gone with the Lunati undercut crank.

I'd like to go a mid 10 on motor and a 9.9 on the gas. I'm thinking I'll need about 150 or so to do that in a lightweight hardtop formula 6spd. I don't plan on hitting it with too much gas. Just enough to fight off those pesky LS1 strokers.

Very sweet setup man. Im doing the very same thing except Im having Bret Baur build the motor for me. One question I do have is why you chose to use RR with stud girdle instead of shaft mounts?.
One other thing, I know you probably dont want to be dissapointed in any dyno numbers but why so low in the hp dept. With your setup Id think you would be in the 600hp range. You have alot of potensial(sp) int hat combo.

The stud mount rockers were mainly cost considerations. You can't tell from the pictures but the rockers are actually Crower offset rockers specifically designed for the AFR220/227 heads. I would have liked to run a shaft mount setup but that would have been another $600 on top of what I have invested in this valvetrain. When the new computer goes in and the RPM is increased, I'll likely switch to the shaft setup because I don't trust a stud mount above 7,000rpm anyway.

As far as power numbers, I'm not quite sure what you mean. This is a 23deg head setup with a moderate solid roller. The rwhp equates to about 540hp at the crank with 12% drivetrain loss and we're not done yet. I haven't seen many other 23deg setups with an LT4 intake make these numbers and I'm happy with where we're at as a baseline to work from.
