Default dome pistons for LT1

I'm currently running chevy large port vortec heads and looking for a dome piston to up the compression. The LT1 has the same combustion chamber as the vortec head, but I cannot find anyone that makes a piston for the vortec. Who makes a forged piston for the LT1?

Man, take your pick (JE, Speed Pro, Diamond, etc...). You can get a forged piston from just about any of the big manf and some are sponsors on this board. If you need something custom you can go that route as well.

Nothing special about an LT1 piston. Just standard 350 chevy stuff.

Yeah you just have to check the piston to chamber clearance and fix accordingly.

The real question is why do you need a dome? A flat top 383 can get you well over 12:1

Well I'm running vortec large port heads on a regular chevy small block and want to up the compression. The heads came as 65cc chambers and I milled them .030. Right now I'm running speed pro hyper pistons with a .125 dome with standerd vortec heads. The dome looks like a W shape to clear the spark plug boss. I want to get the same dome or bigger in a forged, but no one that I've talked to makes one thats on the shelf so it has to be custom made. The cam I'm running is 248/258@.050 so I need high compression. Otherwise I'm looking at 11.1 with a flat top. What are all the sick N/A LT1's running for compression.

JE told me they didn't know if their domes would clear LTX heads or not! (?) It's not like these engines just came out. As Bret said, you certainly have to do some work to get everything to clear. With domes, they are absolutly not the same as a std small block Chevy.

Try TRW-WL2304F or TRW-L2304F, they have a solid mini dome. Chances are dome modifications will be needed to fit it in the chamber, not a problem because the dome is solid. These are relatively heavy the WL2304F is the lighter of the two.

Another option is to angle mill the heads; you might get away with a flat top.

I found out that KB makes a forged set for LT1/Vortec heads. They are .163 dome which will give me 12.5:1.
