why is it even a question?? long tubes all the way! think about it.. with minimal mods you dont gain that much more than you would with shortys or mids but heavely modded, you gain alot more..either way you gain more.. let air in and let it out the other end.. LTs..

well i proved that you dont gain anything on bolt ons and a cam car going to long tubes from shorties.
and i had shorty 1 5/8s headers

i love how all these people say shorties are worthless and they have never ran them.

I myself would only go with mids or long tubes. However that my just be my preference, as the shorties for the B-car LT1 protrude up into the engine bay, requiring you to cover lots of stuff with heat wrap, and not allowing you to run composite Vette valve covers( Not sure if F-body shorties are like that)

This isnt a poll, its a war. Longs tubes are the only winner. 30 to 3, yeah shorties are better for performance

i dont recall the original post saying anything about ported heads?

but really if your going to be doing lots of mods, yeah go with the long tubes.

if your just doing what you stated in your post, i would stick with your shorties you already have.

it just all depends on how much you want to spend, and what your plans are for the car.

look, none of are saying Lts sucks we are just defending the fact that shortys and mids are not WORTHLESS.I mean dont get me wrong I would have long tubes if I wasent worryed about emissions thats why I got mids.

answer= with that setup you will gain the same or very very close if you went with good set of mids or LTs.

With your mods, shorties would be restrictive. Mid lengths will give you as much power or more than long tubes will with your set up, and you won't be scraping them over speed bumps. I am talking about 1 3/4 mid length headers, not 1 5/8. Without porting the heads, these will work great. I even have ported heads on my 96 WS6 and the car makes more power now than it did with the long tubes. There is a point where the long tubes would make more power than the mids, but I am not at it yet. I would not think you would be either, since you are making less power than I am.

i think with the mods you should just stay with the headers you have.

the 1 5/8s were not a restriction on my car and i had similar mods.

Restrictive in that he will see better results from the mid lengths if they are 1 3/4 compared to 1 5/8. I should have been clearer on that I guess.

Sounds like you have the right parts for your set up. Since his is like yours, either one would work for him. I would still recommend the 1 3/4 though, since if he ever wanted to do more(big cam, etc.), the 1 3/4 would would flow better. I have had several systems on my car, and spent lots of money on it. It is always sweet to get the right parts to work with what you want the first time. I fiddled with the exhaust more than any other area performance wise on my car to get the best out of what I had. I have a hot cam and heads. The 1 5/8 headers did not give me as much power as the 1 3/4. Oddly enough, neither did the long tubes.

I wish I could go back and choose a different exhaust setup. the mid length headers worked great on my stock engine. However, on my 383 LE3 heads & cam car I believe they are holding me back. I need all the top end breathing I can get. It really all depends on what you want for your car and how your car is setup. You can and can't, at the same time, go wrong with either exhaust.
I wouldn't buy the shorty headers, though. I would go for mac midlengths or AS&M mids if I wouldn't buy LTs.

on a side note:

Which one will be better for my mods with stock head
my mods will be
cam 305 or 503 (not yet decided)
converter 3000 TCI
3.73
y -pipe 2.5''
Flowtech muffler ( cat-back)
BBK 52
ram air
mass air
ported intake
tune
your y-pipe will depend on your headers that are chosen
I wouldnt waste time on a bbk 52mm tb. the stock one will flow fine for what you need, unless you already bought one.
dont mess with your MAF! DO NOT MESS WITH IT!

Yes, the AS&M's are long for mid lengths. The bolt to my catback at the lowest point of the exhaust. Shorties and some other mid length headers bolt up on the side of the motor, where as the AS&M's and RK Sport's bolt up past the bottom end.
