Regardless of future modifications you will get more with longtubes, although shorties might be an alternative at your current state of mods. For what it is worth, shorties are not cheap and you can get a pair of longtubes for the same price, might as well get longtubes.

but he already has a set of shorties on the car. wouldnt it be a waste of money to go out and buy longtubes since he has shorties/mids already?

Shorties here 1/5/8 with a 2/1/2 collector welded up to CATS shoved right up into the engine bay (as per emissions spec. on the GTO). I also run a 2/1/4 catback and 3200 stall.

12.2@112 all stock motor and 11.9@114 212-220 cam only.

Dynos mean ****. Ive always dynoed low compared to most ppl. out there. Settle the war where its fought - at the track.

I'm going from Shorty's to Longtubes. I'll post results when I get them in (one day) and get to the track. From BBK + BBK Y to Pacesetters + ORY.

Id go with the long tubes and true duals. When I had my 1997 Trans Am I had Hooker long tubes with 2.5" true duals, CAI, 3.73, pulleys, reprogrammer, adj. fuel pressure regulator, pretty much bolt on's. It had a great mph (110mph) I dont remember the time, I was surprised to see that mph for the mods I had.

I voted for the longtubes, but I had great results with the Edelbrocks a few years back. Ran 12.34 with a best mph of 109.9 (bolt on's), and 11.27/119 with a 100 shot.

I agree. I have Shorties and true duals without clearanse problems.... I think i can have the extra 10hps with other mod and dont be hitting the paviment all the time...

My JetHot Longtubes should be removed in a week or so (can find out from Gforce when exactly) and I'm going to Kooks LTs and will sell these cheap if your interested. I paid $520, they are about 2 yrs old, in good shape send me a pm if your interested. Only reason I'm upgrading is I'm stroking, they were good headers.

How much of a horsepower gain would I see with the addition of Edelbrock shorties to a completely stock exhaust?

I have LT's and I never hit the pavement except on really big speed bumps. It's not even the LT's that hits it, it's the cutout.

individual hand made stainless long tubes with the some $700 collectors that dump before the rear wheels are the only way to go

Maybe that is for a different viewpoint ???
