A couple years ago I spent $300 to get my 94Z back on the road after fragging the motor. Put a 4.3L L99 out of a Caprice in to it. It ain't fast, but it runs.

The 383 is on the engine stand right now, waiting on some windage tray studs that are on backorder...

If you already have $1500-$2500 saved up for a new motor, I wouldn't dump that out on a used LT1. I would actually buy the cheapest motor that can fit in that car, and use the rest on a brand new block. It'll be rough to run around in a cheap engine, but it'll be worth it by the time you get your brand new engine... in half the time!

You could pull it rebuild it yourself and use the money for the machine shop bill and a nice P/P on those heads. I just rebuilt mine this winter and also did a nice canton 6 quart pan and high volume oil pump.

I agree. I'm doing what SDM spoke of. I was in the middle of my solid roller LS6 build for my '98, and was sinking big bucks ($$,$$$) in to that motor at the time. Paying for two motors was not possible for me, and my 94Z was dead.

But now 2 years later I have a nice Callies / SRP / Lunati / Splayed 383 sitting on the stand.

i would rebuild it if you HAVE that money... if you have $2500 you can do a full forged bottom end with decent nice parts. You will have to skimp out on heads for awhile.. but a nice forged bottom end... break it in.. save... and go LE3 or something mean.

Where are you located? If you go on SCFYB.com there were 2. A 97 long block for $600 with low miles and another for like $1400 I think with a cam and if I remember correctly complete.
