98 Cobra wants to race...
He thinks he has a chance. The car is stock with the exception of 3.73s. I beg to differ. Don't 96-98 Cobras only run about 14.0 @ ~101 stock?

Well I wouldn't be too cocky with that 98 Cobra just yet. If you know anything about 96-98 Cobras they need a lot of gear. First off the biggest mistake he made was not putting 4:10s in that Cobra. It might be a bit under-geared with 3:73's (my opinion). The Cobra will pull hard later in the race if he gets a good launch. Granted you have a lot of suspension work I think you will have the upper hand here knowing what our cars are capiable of. I think you'll definatly have him but don't underestimate the 96-98 Cobras. 4:10's, a full exhaust, intake, and a good set of tires and they are in LS1 range!

I ran a guy in a 98 cobra, he had $2000 in it. I had just Pacesetter mids and a K&N Air Filter at the time. We were at Memphis Motorsports Park, the 1/4 mile. I got a shitty launch and still beat him by .5 sec. I ran a 13.8@102. I haven't been back since with the new setup, but it currently is beating LS1 Corvettes. And I have LT's coming soon, and possibly new Heads...

Oh, I will let you know how bad he cries. The guy who owns it was talking a big game. He's ridden in my car before and even though he said it feels more torquey, he's convinced he should win because he has more power. (Stock, he does, but not when you factor in my bolt-ons.)

I would be careful of 98 cobras with the HP fix. Are you sure he is giving you the entire list of goodies on his car. I bet he knows 4:10's or 4:30's are the hot setup and just letting you think he has 3:73's. I can remember a certain 99 (car must have been a 99, because it got the HP FIX) cobra all white with the HP fix back in 2001 and he had longtubes, x-pipe, flows, 4:30's, Cold Air/ K&N and some other little stuff. The Cobra ran 12.50 / 12.60's all day long on slicks @ 108 plus. How do I know this, because I raced him at the track the night I ran 12.60's @ 109 with a full bolt-on LT1 on slicks. We raced 3 times and I lost the first race, won the second and third race: (me)12.65 @ 108.6 to his 12.55 @ 108.5, second race: (me)12.63 @ 108.8 to his 12.65 @ 108 and third race: (me)12.61 @ 109 to his 12.62 @ 108.4 I still have the time slips from this race in 2001 because I could not believe that a 98 cobra could run this good, it's the only time I have ever run across a pre-2003/2004 Cobra that ran this good with just bolt-ons like my LT1.
I say do some further investigation, but I'm sure you will get him if all he's got is 3:73's

The biggest gains I saw in MPH down the track actually came from my PCMforless tune and gears. The PCMforless tune had me consistently trapping ~1.5mph faster and the gears got me about ~1.5 as well.
