Default Spark Plug Wires

My car has a set of uncoated hooker shorties but they are wraped. My problem is that i keep burning my spark plug wires. i put a set of Accel 9000s on it and they still got burnt up. I am wondering what is my best bet for a new set of plug wires. and i am going to getboot and wire protectors

Go with the same ones?

Go with Accel 300+ race wires? http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/sdetail/9589

Go with the taylor Full metal Jackets?
http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=4&pcid=104

or go with the top mount set up?

I have the accel Race wires, but I have coated headers and spent ALOT of time routing them so they have good clearance. no issues yet :crossfingers:

I'm in the same boat as you. I just installed my headers and burnt up my stock wires. I looked around and decided to go with the Taylor top mount kit. http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=4&pcid=104 Its the 6th one down.

1. take that header wrap off before the headers rust to bits.
2. clean the headers up and put a coating on yourself
3. if your burning wires with wraped headers, you need steps 1, and 2.

good luck!

I voted the Accel 300+ Race wires, they are really great and havent ever burned up on me, even though when I first installed them, they were rubbing up on one of the primaries, I fixed the problem and put a heat shield on the wires running too close for comfort, So thats my vote because they are durable, good brand quality, cheap, look cool.

If you dont mind spending more dough, then Go with the Taylor, I put a set on one of my other vehicles, man those things are awesome, but really pricey

EVERY one of you suggesting OVC have LT headers. With longtubes the OVC IS a great vhoice. NOT with the Hooker shorties.

Unlike ALL the folks suggesting OTV wires: I HAVE the Hooker shorties, and the clearance with 90 degree boots sucks, especially on #7. Do NOT go with OVC, they won't help. What would help would be to go to a longtube header; for various reasons, I stayed with my shortys. I've run both stock 7mm style wires and MSD 8.5mm, and only kept from burning them after spending 2 hours with a LOT of zipties to keep the boot exactly where they needed to be. Factory wire looms help a lot too.

In all honesty, the problem is the header. the Hooker shorties are a PITA, and next time around I'll go with longtubes. I'd also suggest, even if the LTs are SS, get them ceramic coated just for the reduced temps.

MSD 8.5s (cut to length) over the valve covers -- you don't have to buy that whole kit from thunder. I bought the taylor heat shields for them and it works fantastic. I'll get some pics tomorrow in the light if you want them.

Zip Ties and some regular Moroso looms will work great. I'd steer away from the Taylor wires, mine were a nightmare and I've heard of others having issues with them as well.

Another vote for the OTVC set up..I pieced together a set using Taylor Sipro Pros thru Summit before I realized that Thunder offered a kit ...Spend the $$$ and get a good crimper and take your time...This was one of the best mods I've done...No burned wires in the 2 years since I did the mod...You can also use any good 8mm wire and buy the Taylor opti-ends to crimp on the wire of your choice...So far the Taylors have been great, though...and I have Kooks uncoated stainless stepped LTs...

I wish they sold the full metal jacket wires in a universal cut-to-size kit.... how cool would it be to have OVC stainless steel braided wires?!

I'm using MSD 8.5 S/C wires. Traditional routing. When I install the LT's I'll most likely get OVC's.
