Default Any trick on changing spark plug wires LT1

Any tips on changing the miserable Passenger side plug wires - I managed to curse my way through the 4 on the drivers side. However the Passenger side is impossible - underneath - from the top or any angle.

1997 LT1 Trans am -

Is there any special tips, tricks or ideas to do this?

Yeah, do the A.I.R. delete mod first! You wouldn't believe the difference.

Get LT headers, clears those spark plug wire and spark plug replacement problems right up.

Ok I'll try that - How much room does moving the alternator give? And is it hard to take off and reinstall?

No it is not hard to take off. I dont remember exactly but its either 3 or 4 bolts, 1 wire held on with a nut, and one with a clip, then the belt. It frees up alot of room for the front 2 plugs and all the wires. You just have to make sure you have lots of different extentions and swivels and some patients. After a few changes you will be a pro, and wonder why it took you so long to do it the first time.

Just out in the garage looking at the altenator, seems like that may help some. Your talking about removing them from top correct?

Now for the back one (number 8) is it best to remove the starter?

Well I got them changed- taking off the alternator gave it enough room to get my hands in there somewhat. Still took a lot of swearing and crawling on top and bottom of the car.

Seems one of the biggest problems I had was that the stock wire looms did not want to let go of the wires very easily. Next time (if there is one) should be easier.

Thanks for the advice everyone

having a heavy bag in your garage works wonders as a stress reliever when working on cars.

Yea one of my least favorite things to do in the world, plugs and wires on the lt1. Running them the stock way with manifolds.... errrrrrr. Now with LT's and over the valve cover kit makes it a lot easier.

Make sure to check all of your wires so they dont touch the manifold!!!!!! I went through way too many wires because I thought they were far enough. and those things are not cheap.

Although it sounds crazy, get the car up on stands, drop the "Y" pipe, alternator, and power steering pump, just like the factory shop manual says, and 7 of the plug wires are easily accessed. #2 cyl. is still a little tight, but doable. I've had my car 10 years, and did the wires at 5 years, and just did them a couple of months ago.

First time, I was stubborn, and didn't pull the p/s pump. It was frustrating. This last time, I pulled the p/s pump, which was a litle tricky, but once I did, the wire replacement went a lot quicker.
