I'm gonna guess it's something electrical. Check volts coming from battery and alternator. Low voltage can make our cars do some crazy ****.

All right so I come home tonight clear the codes, 36, 16, 42, and a mass air code. The mass air is my prob I unpluged it thinking it might be bad anyhow, cleared them all and start it up and it didnt even wait for the engine to warm b4 going crazy. As soon as I started backing up to put it in the garage, it started. I barely got it to the garage.

So it set 16 codes back instantly, but didnt turn the light on. So I also picked up a buddys computer tuned for 30's and a big cam, so it was similar to my set up fired it up and there was no change.

Think its the opti? Man I bet Ive went through 3 optis in 15k miles. The last one I replaced I just changed the back part of the opti (optical sensor), but the whole opti was changed the time before that.

The fuel pump was running constantly with the engine off key on.

Any ideas?

I'm willing to bet a 6 pack the opti without a doubt. As for the electronic spark timing issue, Im sure it's tied in as well. Install a new opti not reman.

and if it is getting a false crank signal it will keep the fuel pump going as well

Its setting 16 just as fast as I can clear it. Think the Digital 6 is eating these things? Ive replaced optis till im tired of replacing them. There not getting wet or oil on them. Thank god for advance and there warrentys. I think im gonna buy a MSD from them. Think that will keep me from replacing these things every other oil change??

I think we just solved this scooby doo mystery. I say dump the Dig6 and get a MSD or dynatech or at least a opti from Dal then call it a day.

Im telling you, check your battery. Low voltage does some wacky *** ****. Your opti isn't gonna make your air bag light come on. Just get a battery from a friends car and hook it up real quick. I could be totally wrong but it's easy to check so why not.

Battery was charged I took it to work today and charged it just for fun. Brought it home put it in set the code 30 secs later went ape. Damn MSD opti 500 dollars. Advance said they can have it in 3-5 days tho. They have real easy exchange policys too.

dude. have u even checked your fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Your fuel pump should not be doing that and sounds like that is the problem.

If the fuel pump is cutting off really quick then cutting back on, it seems as if shutting fuel off to the injectors and causing it to bog and almost die and jump around crazy like that.

Now it may take up to a second before the air in the fuel lines get to the injectors because, well your pump is in the back of the car and its sending fuel to the engine.

Now check out those damn things i just told ya.

SOrry to be kidna rude but i think 2 people on here said check ur fuel pump and relay and you just ignored and think its your opti or somethign else.

Doesn't seem like a bad opti to me... remove your ignition module and have it tested at Advance, it could be aslo a bad ignition coil, once it warms up, it fails while running, cools down and it runs well... so, just another option to look for...

What about your ignition coil? Borrow one from the friend you borrow engine computer... It did that to me, at times my car would have difficulty to get started, others it would fire up just fine. One saturday I spent the night cruising and came back home with car running well... guess what, next day it wouldn't even start... tested module and it was good, went ahead and tested primary and secondary resistance on coil and it look good according to chart specs... still the car wouldn't start, I checked for power at the coil with key in the on position and it tested good, but there was no spark output from coil to opti... so, I just replaced coil and it solved the problem. Now, I see your problem is intermittent, but it could be a sign... a sign where condition only shows when coil warms up...

I would suggest replacing it or borrowing one from a friends just to test... just to eliminate that as a possiblility...

Yea but my problem on optis isnt the cap. Its the cam sensor "optical sensor". I really dont think stock ones can handle 500 HP and 7K shifts. Complete opti is 500 skins.

Actually the rotor blows apart before the optical sensor craps. Gone through two optis that snapped at just 6K

And I really dont think it's the opti spark. If it was, it probably wouldn't run at all. Wouldn't make sense for it to run and then mess up after it heats up.

So it's not the ICM or low-voltage. I'm kinda stumped. Let me think about it for a while.
