Default 1996 LT1

I am confused as to how a 1996 Corvette with the LT1 can be as fast or even faster than a stock 98-02 SS. I understand that the LT1 has 300 hp whereas the SS has between 320 and 325. What's the deal?

I did it all the time before I started to get into mods. TA-3500lb, Vette-3300lb. Aerodynamics and gears also. Plus the Vette has a higher TC than the F-body. Put it all together and you will get walked, slowely, but surely. From a start, its anyones game depending on how far you go. Stock, I ran a 13.4. Whats a stock LS1 running?

I understand that a lot of it could be the drivers but in a specific case where the 96 Vette was on the highway and the SS was next to it both at 55-60 then they both hit it and the Vette pulled. Both cars are autos so I don't understand how one driver could be better than the other when all they have to do is put their foot down.

Didn't the Vette get the LT4 in '96? If so, it would have better heads and intake compared to an LT1.

Based on experience out here....

A stock A4 LT1 vette won't pull a stock 98-02 LS1 Fbody A4 from a roll. The LT1 vettes are about 30-40 rwhp shy (per the dyno, not GM's rating, which understates the LS1's power big time) of the LS1, not enough to where the weight and aerodynamic advantage will pay off (at least to about 120ish). If the 96 Vette was an M6, then it was an LT4, which is very close to an LS1 in power. Then, with the weight, aerodynamic and tranny advantage, the Vette would pull the A4 LS1Fbody no problem, especially from 85ish and up.

The LT4 had allot of better items. Heads, Intake, Tranny and the bottom end was designed to better handle the higher rpms.

A stock LT1 A4 will pull a stock LS1 A4 from a roll. I have done it. It has to do allot with the driver, but it can be done. As far as a LT4 against a LS1 Stock for Stock a LT4 will walk all over a LS1.

gearhead......all LT4's were 6 spd's, but not all 6=spds were LT4's, they did make LT1's with 6 spds in them. look at the rpm gauge...the LT4 has more RPM's to play with than the LT1
