It rare that you find a place that has them in stock, As far as I know they are made on order.

Yeah, the most of them are made to order. Call an engine bulider, and they usually will call up AFR and they will build them to their specs.

Tell your buddy to do some research and find out that AFRs are not what he wants and that he should be looking to port the stockers.

To make the most out of AFR's you would need an aftermarket computer and way much more cam than what is the norm for this section of ls1tech.

I he really insists on making the AFR mistake I have a friend considering getting rid of his TPIS ported ones in favor of some AI 190s like I have.

The AFR stuff was good on gen 1s GM stepped it up in a big way with the LT1 heads and all AFR did was make the same old castings reverse flow in doing so they are basivcally giving you OLD gen 1 designs. ALL the fast LT1s you see with AFRs spent cubic dollars on making those turds work back before shops had maximized the stock heads they way they have and today folks are going just as fast with a lot less in the whole car not just in the heads.

i went with thwe trick flows on my 383 they flow great but i did have them ported and polished before they went on but stock heads with porting and polishing with a 3 angle valve job work great for stock bottom ends

True, I am happy with them. I don't think it was a mistake. Thats what I wanted, thats what I bought. Lots of people told me that I would'nt hit the 400 RWHP mark and I did with a small *** cam to top it off. The only mistake I made was the cam.

I dont think anyone is knocking them. I think that what is being said is there are better options for your money depending on what your goals are. Seems true concidering there are plenty of Stock ported head guys seeing over 400.

Well it is hard to get really low comrpession (8.5/1 and lower) without buying a set of aftermarket heads. I dont see any other reason to go with aftermarket... but i have to for the boost motor.

Iron LT1 heads are 64cc chambers as are Trickflows.

You would think people who own parts are a good source of info on the results of them but in my observation with expensive things like OH say AFR heads those who make the mistake will defend it to the grave never admitting it was a mistake. Not all guys who make expensive mistakes like that do so but many do, it takes a big man to say they were wrong.
