Question LT1 Died Today

I was driving down the road, and was on the gas, and it began to spit & sputter, so I got out of the gas, and it leveled off. I then got back into the gas, and it sputtered & spit again, and then died. The motor turns over, but it won't start now. A week ago, I washed the engine, and drove it everyday without any problems until today. The check engine soon light did not come on, so need some input as to what anyone might think caused this. Thanks.

yeah i would have to agree with everyone on the OPTICRAP. I had to change mine at 100K miles, i did it myself and i never did one before.....it was a fairly easy i thought.....you can get the MSD OPTI for i think around 500 bucks or you can go with a stock AC delco for cheaper off of EBAY thats where i purchased mine and i havent had any problems with it......you could really feel the difference in power once i changed the old one out......i blew mine to **** drag racing.

It also could be the ICM or coil. Check them before you do the opti. I did the same thing last week and it was the ICM. I know better than to wash under the hood but I just bought it and it was so dirty.

Yeah the opti is a sneaky bastard. I had it so that I would constantly backfire/miss, and amazingly the SES light would not come on. Replaced factory opti and harness with MSD unit, fired right up and ran strong.

NAPA has a ICM tester.

Are you sure you weren't out of gas? Try changing the fuel filter before you start spending tons of money.

all stock, no underdrive pulleys or headers, so I don't think any wiring was burned.

If you go to a local autoparts store they will let you use an OBDII scanner for free and you do it yourself, if they try and sell you **** (which is their job and all) it doesnt mean you have to buy it......

My guess is the optispark since you washed your engine, I have not heard much about the msd unit but I have had the dynaspark over a year and it is still doing great all the way up to 6800.

Okay, well I checked the fuses, and made sure the fuel pump was primering when I turned on the engine. I used my test light, and put it in one of the spark plug wires, and can't see any fire when I turn over the engine. I even held the wire close to the manifold cover to see if it would jump across, and still no fire. Does this help anyone narrow down what it could be??

Probably the coil, opti, or ICM. Go here and run these tests.
