Hey TwoFast4Lv, you said: "I know how to make the Opti work on a Gen 1..."

Do tell!

You could always go with a GENI block and a Holly Stealth Ram. Or you can go with an Edlebrock Victor Jr. intake, and an intake elbow from www.intakeelbows.com. Just need to have the intake drilled for the LT1 headbolt pattern.

9.97 @ 138.749, 1.42 60' at 120' DA

This is normally aspirated with LT1 heads and intake (not even LT4) and a 4L60E which is still using the factory PCM. This is the car on AI's website.

Last week I went ahead and ordered a FAST XFI system for mine. I'll try to get time to install and tune it before Englishtown.
Ed,

I am in shock! I tried for years to get Rick to dump the factory computer. I'll have to call him tomorrow.
I am putting the FAST in my new Firebird. It looks to be a pretty good system.

Whats the big need to rid yourself of the lt1, with the coin you'd spent to convert you'd have a sick lt1!

I got my FAST stuff yesterday. Pretty nice. I like it a lot better than the other systems I have worked with. For sure nicer than the Holley stuff. I'm suprised Woodro chose Holley, unless they give it to him. Kenny Faulk says he likes it better, but they still use the Holley system on Amy's car. He tunes a couple of his customers that use FAST, so he knows the sytem. I never did ask Jeff Warren which system he and Bobby uses.

The RPM limit in the factory box is for sure a killer. Rick runs a lot more cam than I, and my hp graph line is still in a steep climb when the PCM throws up it's hands. I'll finally learn at what RPM my power peaks. According to Engine Analyzer Pro software mine was supposed to peak at 6800, it missed that one. I'll put enough cam in it this winter, and probably be shifting it around 8600 next year. We're shifting a Super Stocker there with a little less cylinder head than I use. Rick is shifting his at 7500, but he has less intake runner volume than mine.

Take care, Ed

Ed any power gains with a Fast or any of the aftermarket Engine management systems below 7200RPM???
BTW you tuned my brothers Black M6 C6 and my Friends red c6 from Arkansas, and those cars run awesome.
I'll be bringing my VRE 383, LE AFR headed, D1SC motor down to you at the beginning of the year to get tuned.

I would be suprised if it gained much if any below 7200. Not sure why it would.

Looking forward to seeing your car!

Sorry guys really busy at the shop. I run one shop during the day then come home and work mine most of the night

It is VERY easy. The ONLY must is a GM roller block with provisions for GM roller cam. Cut the top off a LT1 timing chain cover and have the top of a GEN-I cover mated to it and call it a day. I have yet to find some one to make my covers at a fair price but now that I have finaly shared this info someone will be making money off of me tomorrow

Hell I am used to it. We hand built a ton of stuff you guys buy every day from vendors. They just change it a hair and get some one to stamp them out

As far as the cover. It really is THAT easy If you want one I can have your cover converted

Now My Reverse Water pump to go with it? Not a chance I am sharing that one yet

Hey Ellis,

Thanks for the info. I too was looking at welding up a gen1 timing cover to a gen2 cover. I’d probably ruin a few in the process so if I need this, I’ll hire your services. I was hoping that you had a way of running the distributer from the stock gen1 location. The water pump would obviously need to be an electric gen1 design.

Default New best et

Hi guys I see I have drawn some attention with my new track #s. I saw that Ed posted I was shifting at 7500rpm with the Holley Comander but I havn't tried it with this motor yet. I use the stock pcm to control the trany and before when I had the shifts set to shift at 7500 the 1-2 shift would hang up and not shift causing the motor to rev to 8000. I was at a big race for $10,000 to win the last time it happend and I have never tried it since. The most I have done this time is 7000 1-2 and 7300 for the 2-3 and it has worked flawless. I may try it at 7500 this week end on a few time trial but not in the race. The motor loves the heads from Ai and they did a good job of matching the cam to take full use of them. I did,t realy want to go with a smaller cam but it realy paid off. The heads and cam made so much low end power I couldn't get off the line with out spinning on the wheeli bars. The motor would go to 8000 when they woulld hit. The only thing I could do so I would,t break the car was try and leave in 2nd gear. I only lasted 3 round leaving in 3rd because it was hard to cut a light but the car ran a best of 10.33. To cure the launch problem I put 20lbs of steel in the front nose, went to a taller tire (94" roll out), and put on 2" headers. thats when I ran my best times last week. As far as the Holley Comander I would much rather run the factory pcm from Ed. The Holley runs good on the top end but runs like **** in the pits. There wasn't much gain with the Holley but it got me away from the misfire at 7000 so I don't break the motor.

Rick Abare.
PS: Join me at Atco on the 28 and 29. I would love to talk.

Sorry I got the numbers wrong, wasn't intentional. That was from memory, and I'm old.
