I have both. I'll be honest, I like working on my LS1 a lot more than the LT1. All the LS1 gaskets are reusable (well, except head gaskets, but you can get Cometics, which are reusable). Nothing to clean if you take the intake, timing cover, oil pan, waterpump, etc. off. Try that with an LT1. Don't even have to pull the intake off to swap the cam out on an LS1. That's nice.....

No opti is a big plus too.

I like the looks of the nose of my LT1 Camaro a lot more than my Catfish LS1 though. I think the LT1 is a much better looking car.

I don't see many cam-only LT1 cars running 11's. With LS1's, it's commonplace. Heck, even I did it.

LS1 is a engineering marvel as far as pushrod motor's go.. hand's down a better setup/performer out the box.. w/ the right choice in heads and a cam, you can significantly narrow the gap between the two.. but stock for stock.. LS1's are the iSh.. I love my LT1 alot.. But when you can slap a set of headers and a cutout on a car and put down 340rwhp.. That's a monster...

Pssh Ls1. I agree with the comment that LT1's look better. Better engine this blah blah blah gimme torque some stickies and a cutout and they've lost their edge.

Put stickies and a cutout on an LS1 and they got their edge back. Like I said, mod for mod, the LS1 is 50 hp ahead.

Even when you get running with the big dogs, the LS1 is still has an edge.

they only got the heads, cam and intake as an advantage to us.

i know about the coil on plug ign but the real advantage is the heads/intake/cam.

I almost bought an LS1 when my motor was ruined. I test drove 6 of them and none felt great to me. When my motor died the car went 12.9 on motor with a crap small cam and hand ported heads. So for a non ragged out ls1 (2004 when I looked) I was looking at 12-18K. I had 10 k cash to play with. Instead I rebuilt my car and it's a tad faster than the ls1's I would have bought and still had a few payments on maybe.
See sig for times.

Yes, well, that's a pretty significant piece of the engine. Oh yea, and the 6 bolt mains is an advantage too.

And I still dont think that difference is worth 5k-10k. But then again, this car is my daily driver, its not the weekend warrior track car.
Uh, it's not "5k-10K" for a LS1 vs LT1- that is the difference in the model years of the cars- a '95 is going to be considerably less expensive that an '01 or '02-

Yes, they are better- and the later models of either are better than the early ones. Technology moves on- get over it, or go buy a '55 Chevy with points and a 6V electrical system.

Either one is a great sporty car- V8, RWD, lots of potential and mods-

Lastly, as someone else pointed out, also- the LS1 doesn't have the low-end torque of the LT1- comes off the line softer (which can help traction!) so the SOTP is weaker- but, as they spin up, they just keep climbing, don't flatten out on the top. Remember, I am talking stock for stock- you can make either one do whatever you want, with enough cubic dollars.

second that!

ill take the $5k and be ahead of the ls1...(now now, dont say you can spend 5k and be ahead, cuz you already squandered your money)

Ls1s just show that you have no skills to do work to your car, so you just buy your power...

just like porshe owners (cept they are slow)

LT1s are much more comfortable too. every ls1 iv been in feels like it was owned by someone made of wd40...they are so greasey ugly looking.

That arguement is invalid. Spending $12k on an LT1 car ($7k for the car and $5k for mod's) is NOT the cheapest way to go fast. You could probably put $12k into a 3rd gen and go much faster. Or, you could put $12k into a 5.0 and go faster still.

That sounds just like a ricer talking about us V-8 guys. "V-8's just show that you have no skills to do work to your car, so you just buy your power. . ."

I have an LT1, but for reasons that no one has listed yet.

I'm LT1 because:

- Room for a turbo while retaining all stock accessories in their stock locations and running all piping over the k-member.

- Computer is easier to tune.

after replacing opti, waterpump, and fixing all the oil leaks, i probably could have gotten a LS1, damn LT1s are worthless pieces of dog crap, thank god they atleast look and sound good and still kill the 4.6ers, Id trade my LT1 in right now in a second for LS1
