New cam only times
I got my car to the track this weekend, looking to best my old cam only times. I was hoping for better, but you cant controll the track prep.
Mods include almost every bolton possible, full syspension, QA1s, CC305 cam, TH350 trans with a 4000 stall, and a race weight of 3130.
Last year the car went a best of 11.907 @112 with a 1.602 60ft with a race weight of 3530.
This year the car went 11.706 @ 115 with a 1.637 60ft. This new time is with the race weight of 3130. I was playing with the QA1s all day, and 1.637 was the best I could get. I was hoping for something in the high 1.5s
The track prep was horible yeasterday. It didnt help that over 80% of the cars were on true street tires draging water up to the line, and then tearing up the starting line as they spun for 100+feet.

thats quite a light car...still nice times for that size cam and power level. congrats and good luck getting faster next time. track prep usually heads south for regular test and tune nights.

I basicly spent all last winter trying to find every little bit of weight to take out of the car while still keeping it stock looking. I completly gutted the car taking out every little thing that wasnt being used, then put everything back together. The interior of the car looks almost completly stock. Stock carpet with the backing pulled off, stock seats, center console, dash.
You would be amazed at how much wiring is in these cars. I took at least 50lb worth of wiring, electical tape, wire loom out of the car. For example when taking out the air bags, I tracked down every single wire that had to do with the air bags and cut it out. I did the same thing with abs, traction control, etc.
Front and rear bumper supports are gone, and the front tabs that hold on the bumper are cut out also.
I used the SMJ abs delete kit, along with the low mount alternater setup.
I could go on and on, but the amazing thing is how light I got the car and it still has a stock K member, A-arms, steal hood, breaks, sterio, key less entry, etc.

I still have the CC305 cam! I droped two tenths, but I lost alot in the 60ft. The only difference between the car last year and this was weight reduction. If the car would have 60fted like it should, I have no doubt it could have went 11.5s. The track prep was just horible. Too many cars on true street tires tearing up the line, and not enough VHT.
I went 11.83 with a 1.62 60ft mid summer with 275 17in drag radials on the the car. The car should have went 1.56/7 with 15in prostars with et streets. Ohh well next year im looking to go faster with a much larger cam.

hell yea man. My car is almost the same as ures. Everything gutted. Pulled my dash and gutted everything behind it. Its funny when you open the glove box and theres nothing behind it, lol. I have no a/c, heat, p.s. low mount alt. But i took out my carpet and put down some floor mats, lol. No bumper supports, door bars. I could go no for ever also. Good to see its that light, thats what im going for. Any other tips you did??

Its all about the weight savings.

yea, tony is right. A lot of weight savings. Makes working on it TONS eaiser and makes a bit more power and makes the engine rev faster also. Combine that with a EWP and the engine is basically running its self with no drag on the engine.
As for the bracket, i made it myself.

For the sterio, I took out all the speakers, and installed one nice speaker in the factory speaker location just behind the drivers seat. I ran new wires for the speaker, and cut out all other wires for the other speakers. Sounds just as good as factory, with 1/4 the weight.
I cut out the supports under the front fenders. You can search in the Drag tech section for examples and pictures from others.
I also lightened the radiator support.
If you take the door panels apart, there is backing/foam that can be removed.
The big bracket that the dash bolts to can be lightened. I cut out different parts that nothing bolted to it.
The brakets that the back seats bolt to were be taken out. They need to be drilled out, and its not fun.
Im sure there are plenty of others. I used to take a plastic bag with me everytime I worked on the car and filled it up with the little stuff I removed. I would have 10-15 lb in the bag most of the time when I was done for the day.

I hear ya there. When we took the foam off my buddys carpet it seemed pointless. When you pull a handfull off it weighs nothing. But when we were done it was 12lbs. So i know what your talking bout. Im in the process of doing a cam only car too. Just got a good valvetrain and milled the heads to bump the compression a bit. Then gettin a custom ground cam for it. Hopin to get in the low 11 sec. range.
