Default help me install my new cam and with parts...

Well I bought a new LT4 hot cam, from a guy that went to a bigger cam. The hot cam I bought has 1000miles on it and the guy I meet up with said I may need a bigger keyway? any ideas? the cam was in a 94 car (mine is a 95) and it came with no hardware.

Also I was wondering, obviously 1.6RRs are a good thing along with new valve springs...but can the cam go in and the RRs and the VSs go in later? or are they necessary with the cam install?

one last thing...timing chain. smart obviously to replace while inside the motor and it is removed. What do you suggest? LT4 HD set...where do I get it?

thanks a ton guys

Yes, you need to change the springs at the same time you do the cam. You will need a different sized dowel put on the cam to run in a 95 for the vented opti. You can use the LT4 timing set if you don't wanna get an electric water pump. If you want to get an extra 10hp from the ewp, get that and buy a cloyes double roller timing chain.

Seems to be a bandwagon these guys jump on saying the hotcam isn't a good cam. Most of the time they don't even have a cam themselves. (i.e. the poster above) I've personally seen pretty damn good results for the amount of money spent on the hotcam kit. If you got it for a good price go for it.

As per what seawolf06 said. The cloyes double roller is cheaper, but more expensive since you'll have to convert to an ewp. I've had the CSR (at the time CSI) ewp on my camaro and liked it.

For what its worth, spend a little more and get the RR's and valve springs.

12495494 LT4 Springs (set of 16)
12495503 LT4 valve lock (set of 32)
10212809 LT4 valve shim
12361329 LT4 roller rockers

Comes with the cam. Just make sure you tell them what year your car is wherever you order it from.

Put a stock chain in it and it will be ok. Gm chains last a long time anyhow. No point in wasting that kind of money just to blow it. If it was a plain sbc I'd say yeah upgrade it but for the cost in my .02 not worth it. I am running the hotcam kit in my car and reassembled it with a new gm chain and all is well. Just use your judgment and what your checking acct dictates is the biggest factor. Good luck you will like that cam. I love mine

Pin length for the vented Opti is around .650. The non vented one is shorter(not sure what the length is, sorry). I don't know if the 95's came with the vented or not. Measure the length of the pin and find out which opti you have. That should let you know weather or not you need to make any adjustments to the cam before install.

I have the vented opti it has the vent line in the air intake. so I will not have to get a new dowel right?

should I just get the stock lt4 stuff due to my budget? (rockers, springs and retainers?) will they all fit?

Probly not but you should still measure it to make sure the previous owner didn't shorten it.

The springs, rockers and retainers that come in the hotcam kit should be fine(don't know if the stock LT4 came with the same springs). Although your pushing the limits of those springs with 1.6 rr's with the hotcam. I'd get better springs(comp 918's), but if your on a budget they should work.

If the cam is from a 94 it will probably be too short. You just have to measure to be safe.
