Default Stock powdered metal rods

Are the factory rods cracked during production or not? Can they be reconditioned or not?

Also my car is a 94. I have been reading on some other boards that 94s did not come with powdered metal rods.

My .02 The stock rods in LT engines can be reconditioned. I personally would tell you to buy another set upgraded rods than spend all the money having your rods reworked for no gain. I had my rods reworked and in the end I was like $50 short of just buying a cheap set of H beam rods. Also the LT engines didn't have "cracked" rods I believe that started in the LS engine.

I could be way off on this, but I thought I read something about PM rods starting in 1995, If thats true that could mean some late 94s ended up getting them.

Well from reading on other boards, it seems that they can be reconditioned. It seems that the powdered metal rods are cracked, but machined at the cracking point, so that they can be reconditioned. If I have the pre powdered metal rods I believe that they can also be reconditioned.

I am planning on putting ARP rod bolts in the factory rotating assemble, and didnt want to cut any corners.

Resize them making the big end in particular round again.

Far as what the LT1 got and wether it is rebuildable. A 94 LT1 is most likely to have "pink" rods these are forings out of the early 70s LT-1 were the ultimate production SBC rod for a long time. About 95 they went to the powedered metal which are rebuildable but as noted that costs almost as much as a decent but basic set of new aftermarket rods. The LT4 got fractured cap non-rebuildable PM rods.

I had a machine shop quote me $130 to recondition rods. Seems reasonable to me.

Have the ARP bolts on hand for them so they can resize with the new bolts. Also might consider polish, shotpeen, and balancing.

Which were considered better rods: "pink" or the powdered metal?

Just curious?

I pulled out my motor yeasterday, and it appears to have the early style forged rods not the powdered metal rods. I believe these can be resized with no problems.
