Default I'm installing headeres please help

Im putting pacesetter long tube headers on my car tonight. I thought I would probly need some help. I got some good gaskets, they are felpro and i am soking them in water because i herd it will make them seal better if they are soaked in water. I got some instructions from jegs on how to do it, but they just say what to disconnect, not how to disconnect stuff, so anyone post any helpful tips at all.

Im going to be doing it all night so i will be on real late tonight.

Headers should be easy. Are you keeping your emissions stuff or not? If your careful enough you can leave your plugs in but, I would suggest taking them out so you dont hit/crack them. The steering knuckle will probably have to be unhooked to give you a little room on the driverside. Ummm.... Mine went in from the bottom easiest but, by yourself its tough to get them in position and stay there while you crawl out and get on top again.... Having a friend to grab them from the top is most helpful.

If you cut the stock heat sheild off you will have a lot more room to get the bolts I ended up only having to get 2 from the bottom on the driver side and only 1 from the bottom of the pass side. Its a PITA to cut it off but worth it.

Soaking the paper gaskets will help them seal, but you still have to keep the bolts tight or they will blow out. They will also be a real PITA to change after they have been soaked. When you pull them off, the gaskets will split right down the middle and you will have to scrape the paper off of the heads and headers.

watch out for the engine coolant temp sensor on the drivers head. everytime time i take my headers off no matter how careful i am the damn connector always breaks off the sensor. I think the hardest part is getting the old stuff off. Pretty easy and straight forward. good luck

Im assuming that they tell you to remove the steering joints to fit the new headers in. It can be done without do that. I replaced the drivers side gasket on mine yesterday and it took about an hour total. That included taking it all the way off the car and belt sanding the flange to be sure it was flat.

Be careful taking the bolts out of the head. Its a good idea to move from the center out, and back them out in incriments. This typicaly will help relieve the pressure and help keep them from heating up excessively and breaking.

I posted this somewhere else but Locktight makes a stick that is a putty type paste you can apply to your header bolts, that way they do not come loose. The blue type is the one you want.

I had hell with my bolts backing out on me , and this seems to be working.

I dont know about soaking the gasket if it is going to make it a bitch to remove later. It is not fun to take it all back apart. The main thing is to make sure your using a drop in gasket, that you dont have to take the header off to change.

Don't see why it would... will sound like crap, but you could do it. I ran mine with open headers for a night with no problem. Same concept. Why would you want to?

Open manifolds could cause you to warp the valves. When you shut the car off, cool air goes back up into the head, hitting extremely hot parts, and may cause them to warp. Just a word of caution. Also, I have had good luck with the stock manifold gaskets on my headers. I've used two different sets of headers and never had a problem with them leaking. I don't think I'd ever used soaked paper gaskets.
