Default installed my pacesetters, fitting problem

headers went in somewhat easy. But on my drivers side, the collector is sitting above the body crossmember so i can not slip a pipe over it. So i would eather have to notch the body frame rail or trim my trans mount to angle the motor back a tad, which in turn would lower the collector down. Anyone else have this problem. I would assum its because i got poly motor and trans mounts, making everything sit up that extra 1/2 in or so.

Get out the BFH , or bottle jack and push up the section of the support a little, maybe about a 1/4", between doing that and poly mounts mine has no more clearance issues.

It's much easier to do this before installing the Y pipe, then after, ask me how I know...

before you get out the BFH I would advise taking out your temp sensor. B/c I didnt and broke it. Save some hassle and take it out just to MAKE SURE YOU DONT.

John, how the hell did you break you temp sensor by banging the support behind the collector? I guess Talent...

Uhh, if you guys would have bought the pacesetter y-pipe, its flattened/dimpled to clear the floor brace...

Dont hack it, get the correct stuff.

Or at least flatten the pipe, dont shim the trans down, bend the header, nothing like that... They will all cause other problems.

Except for the poly trans mount, they're about 1/8" too tall, shim the trans crossmember down 1/8" off the body to correct for it.

I fixed the link, and I can't remeber if that thread tells what I did but essentially it was something like this...

I installed headers, looked at the clearance above and started posting just like you did..

then I tryed to put the y-pipe on and got it on and lined up and there looked like thre was good clearance...

test drove the car and the y-pipe was banging...

decided to change all my mounts to poly and when I pulled the tranny mount I let it hang down a bit (still had the dead motor mounts in) and banged on that cross member, only a little like 1/8-1/4" or so, changed all the mounts and have never had the banging since, even gettign good launches at the track...

I had the same problem, so I sent the pacesetters back to Summit and bought Jet Hots. I still had the same problem, but not nearly as bad. I replaced the motor mounts to fix the Jet Hot problem. I have seen people that have cut a notch out in that member then fill in the hole with sheet metal.

Good luck, I know how bad it feels to have a problem like that after that much work.

Heres what i did, i grabbed a 2x4 and wedged it up between the header and car, i then lined up the y-pipe and slowly brought the header pipe down slightly until they matched up, then you stick y-pipe in far enough so the flattened area fits under that hump, it is no problem at all, took bout 5 minutes for me to figure it out.

Dont see any y-pipe in the above pics, and if I missed it while reading, its because I tend to 'browse' reading key words till I find something of interest. So sorry if I missed that.

I had the thing hitting the floor with the stock mounts, did try bending it downward some by wedging a 2X4 against the floor and jacking up the trans tailshaft... Didnt really seem to move though.

I think trying to bend the header got me about a 1/8" more clearance, then shimming the trans cross-member down an 1/8" got me a total extra of 1/4"...
That made the hitting almost completely go away except for during hard clutch dumps.

Then I just switched to solid motor mounts.

Guess I went the 'easy' way around the problem by eliminating flex in the drivetrain.

solid mounts would do it i guess. I just bought all new poly mounts and i still want some sort of shock give. Im not gonna run a y-pipe eaither. So i guess ill try so just dent it in a bit and shim my crossmember and it should work i hope.

I said in the link I put above, there is a layout of everything in the house before putting it on the car, but no biggy though, I just thought you were saying we all bought the wrong stuff. I know I didn't, it was just closer then it should have been and that was probably do to pacesetter trying to keep ground clearance...
