Default tap tap tap..

I am getting a tapping sound that matches rev speeds.. it's never there when I start the car, but it's there after it warms up for a bit. It's pretty ******* loud, if I have the hood popped, it's really loud.

Loud enough to where I can actually hear it a bit in the car with open long tubes, but only at idle, or barely moving.
Any idea?

I'd say header leak? Had that problem before. Also, I managed to burn plug wires, and the arcing was sorta like that for me. Oh, and I also somehow got a plug to keep backing out, and you could hear the air going past it. Was mean. Between that, and the burned wire, I was loosing a lot of power.

how is it running besides the tapping? you might have a loose rocker arm you might check into it one way to tell if its an exhause leak is to put your car into first and take off you should be able to hear the ticking get up to about 35-40 and just let out of the gas and let it coast if it is still ticking then its not an exhaust leak

Hmm nah, I had an exhaust leak before, and I just changed the gaskets again.. it sounds like metal hitting metal.

Yea, could be the Rockers if you have them. I got a tick too, but it hasn't gotten worse, and been there since I built the Motor. Everything is in the correct lash adjustments also.

probably not an exhaust leak. it would leak when the motor is cold. I'm going to guess loose rocker. Prolly just need a little tightening.

Although this is pretty rare but since your saying that the noise is LOUD Check your oil for shavings because i had a very loud tap myself. That would lead you to a cam/lifter problem. It happend to me.

motor just started tapping one day, and got progressively louder. Only made noise at idle and low rpm. I dont know if it was the cam or lifter that failed. This problem is a good thing tho, it made me build the car i never thought i would.

I had a chirping sound that kind of sounded like metal on metal. Here is the thread on that whole shabang. Turns out it was a rocker that came off the valve.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...8&page=1&pp=20

Pull off your valve covers and re-adjust the valves at zero lash with the proper pre-load. It is pretty easy to do, and I'd imagine that could be your problem.

Here is a nice writeup Shoe Box did on adjusting them:
