dont do it, your air cleaner gets dirty WAAAAYYYYY to fast and its really not worth the gain, it would be minimal at best

I had a friend who did that, stucked up some water and he was not intentionally trying to hit puddles. Not worth the risk. The most I ever did was my CAI, which is in the same location.

Yea, I did something like that, and the Air Filter got all kinds of crud in it, took about a week to get all covered in crap. It's a little gain, but not much.

I would think that he would be better off with a LS1 Lid conversion and a sheet metal duct like the LS1 have. That to me would be safer. Also with the scoop its not creating a suction, or vaccume, its just getting air into the well of the car.

I just cut some of the plastic then bent it over in the box to cover the filter somewhat. It only time i sucked up water was in a bad storm when the rods were filled weth standing water.

i dont even have that cover on there any more. i know youll all say have you sucked up water and the answer is no. and honestly if youre that worried about it you can do what the ricers have been doing all along and use an aem bypass valve in there and itll draw the water out.

I did that mod when I added my first cold air kit. I didn't have the problem with the filter getting dirty. Problem I had was the scoop kept getting hit. Eventually it got ripped off.

yeah, that location looks like it would make the scoop very easy to tear off

I did this little mod. Instead of cutting a hole and installing the metal peice. I modified the stock air dam and cut a hole. I've had no problem with water, ect.

I'll let you guys know when I get to the track for a first time, but on the old Motor before it blew, it ran .2 sec faster than before. It pulls real good in the high end.

yes ive done the LS1 lid conversion with the ws6 lower box(ram air), and it pulls harder up top and runs alot smoother. id recommend this rather than risking sucking water.

I went ram air (Already got the hood) I wonder if ill see top end gains like all u lid users are getting

You will notice a difference, a big difference. It is suprising how restrictive the stock one is.
