Default Paint Headers?

I have non coated headers and I dont want the paint to melt or anything. Is there a high temp paint I can paint them with to make them stay one color? thanks

My buddy used POR-20 on his headers and the rest of his whole exhaust system. It looks nice and seems to be holding up really nice as well. I will use it when I build my true dual setup.

I'm not sure. He got it online from something like the POR store or something. Search it on Yahoo or Google.

I got some 1500 degree silicone coating from Summit, like $6 a can. I put two cans on my at-one-time-coated headers. Car has been run like 10 mins total and it's starting to come off. It hasn't been burned off, it's flaked up or something. I think painting headers is a losing battle.

your best bet is ceramic coated headers. now that i am installing this brand new engine in my car, my old burned up headers looked so bad bolted up that i had them sent off to be ceramic coated. i should have got the coated ones to begin with.

Yeah but you get the ceramic coated ones and they become uncoated in about 2 years.

I'm telling you get the POR-20. It is good stuff. If applied right it will hold up longer than ceramic coatings. Not sure how much longer, but I know my buddies is holding up better than my ceramic from Jet Hot. Could hold up for a long time.

Im going to look into that, possibly get a can.
Maybe clean up the Y pipe and spray some on.

I wonder if you can just spray it on over the hold original ceramic coating?

Maybe the Ypipe might get bad, but even Pacesetters ceramic coating can last upwards of 30K, or 5 years if you keep the tubes clean.

I would think that you would be able to hold a coating finish longer in FL due to the warmer climate but then I thought about the seaspray so I don't know. I tried keeping my clean but it didn't do any good. I guess it's hit or miss but mine just didn't hold up.

I bought my Jet Hot LTs and Y pipe and have put about 10k miles on them, maybe even less. This is all summer driving, NO snow or salt but have seen rain. I am loosing a lot of my coating where all the primaries merge and a fair amount on the collectors as well.

having the cat installed may have to due with the paint coming off. exhaust exits the headers alot faster with a removed cat.

My car didn't have a cat long before the manifolds were gone.

a friend of mine used vht 1500 degree paint on his headers, and look the same as the night we put them in, which was a year ago. btw its in a fully built 364ci with a roots blower running 12 psi and a 200 shot. so it gets plenty hot
