Question Header suggestions needed

Hello, New guy here...Been looking through pages of posts and couldn't find a good answer - by the way why is there no search function on this thing ??? Or have I missed it ?

Anyhow - take off your full race hats here for a moment..I've recently picked up a '95 trans am with a bad motor. I have the motor down at a shop getting a quality rebuild (balanced, torque plate honed, line bored, new rotating assembly, etc. etc). Thing is, I'm building it for a driver, NOT a race car. I have enough of those. So I'm basically going stock, but was thinking of putting some headers on and pitching the CAT (no DEQ where I live). I figure that is free horsepower with mileage gains as well. So, with the thought that it is a basically stock engine and a daily driver - what header suggestions do you guys have ? LP's ? Shorties ? Brand ?

Thanks for the help.

You ride dirt scooters too?

Your best bet would be a set of long tubes like Jet Hots, Hookers, Pacesetters, or Kooks. They will be more expensive than shorties though. I'm sure you know about coated vs non-coated, as well.

Thanks for the replys...I finally found the search function....I don't think that appears until you join - I sure couldn't until I did...Anyhow - the pacesetters do seem to be pretty popular. Price seems good to. Does the Y pipe they offer eliminate the cat ? Or am I going to have to add an aditional piece in there to make up for it ?

Yes...kind of a dirt bike junkie too...:-) Between bikes and cars - I stay out of the bars...no money left. lol.

Any more thoughts on headers ? The shorties sure look easier for fit-up...the longs worth the extra hassle ???

Hooker LT's is the way I went. They are more expensive but I don't think they are any more of a pain to install than shorties.

The hookers are looking pretty good...I like the fact they are tuned...I think that helps alot. Doesn't look like they come with the emmisions connections though. Pitching the CAT isn't to big a deal - easy enough to put back on if I wanted to sell the car...but changing headers to get it back to emmissions legeal sounds like a pain...Probably my bigger concern though is what kind of computer problems am I going to have if I disconect that stuff ?

Get Pacesetter LT's. Best bang for the buck! Coated for only 400 bucks...can't beat it.
