Hey guys i'm a long time reader here but new to posting. i'm just finishing up a total makeover for my 96 trans am lt1 m6 and curious what kinda #s u think i'll get and suggestions for other additions, doesnt have to pass emissions but gotta look like it will and not ready for heads yet. here's what it'a gonna have....

cai, ported maf, trickflow elbow, 58mm throttle body, ported and polished intake manifold, stock heads, pacesetter mids, stock cats, flowmaster catback, OBD1 conversion from pcmforless, 230/236 custom cam with 544/555 lift and 1.6 roller rockers and isky springs with all new lifters, pushrods, and timing set, and an electric waterpump and 160 stat with ac delete and some weight reduction in front.

Do you mean hp or 1/2 mile numbers. either way probably around 340-350 RWHP
mid 12s in the quarter. port the heads and drop the cats and you will probably have at least 360 RWHP most likely more if heads are done right.

will removing the cats really make that much of a difference? i dont want it to be too loud either, it's already pretty loud and mean sounding.

I'de guess 320rwhp tops, you might hit 340 with longtubes and true duals.

Well I am building a 355 and using AI 200cc cnc'd heads and custom cam also using the supporting mods and dyno tuning I should be well into he 11s with good tractions and a good 60ft. but you dont need a rebuild just a good set of heads and cam will get you there. power isnt everything suspension is the key. port your heads then do some suspension work and get some sticky rubber.

a full suspension set-up as well as a well built rearend are definently next on the chopping block to help put the power to use. what do you guys think of the 230/236 cam with 244/255 lift? will it b streetable or just drive me nuts? im sure the obd1 conversion tune from pcmforless should help it run a little better right?

You do realize what cam surge is right? For example say ur staying at a steady speed that puts you at 1500rpm's in 1st gear, then the whole car will start bucking.

cam surge can be tuned out with a good tune like a dyno tune.

You can't tune all cam surge out, thats like saying you can tune out the lope. Lope is what causes cam surge.

Ported MAF was a mistake and will only serve to make the car much harder to tune.
Porting the intake but then using stock heads was assbackwards.
Think the cam is too big for stock compression especially with an M6, it is going to surge and you will enjoy the car less at least that was the result two locals got with similar cams on stock engines with M6.

Flowmaster is not particularly good either, you paid for advertizing.

I sincerly hope you enjoy your car but it is not going to put down any numbers to be proud of.

porting my maf was the single most noticeable improvement ive done to my car, and ive read many posts saying there werent any problems tuning it. my car already hauled pretty good, i actually blew the stock cam smokin an sl55 amg from a stop right after beating a wrx sti on the freeway and i know im gonna have at least a good noticeable improvement over that. the intake is ported to a 58mm nothing else but i just polished up my runners real good and will go back and match it up when i do heads down the line. i didnt notice any gain with the flowmaster but i absolutely love the way it sounds and have yet to hear better after searching many many other brands (personal opinion). im sure the numbers will be decent, im told anywhere from 315-360 but then again ive seen someone put down 402 with this cam and stock heads so who knows. but my car is super light so i know its gonna be good and mean but crossin my fingers for the best results and hopefully bryan got the tune good to keep the surge to a minimum til i hit the dyno.

streetwarrior, that is a sweet setup, very similar to what i wanna do eventually. this is just a first step since i blew the cam anyways. whats a good rpm to shift at with this cam and stock bottom end?

Um, thats by far the highest dynoing cam only LT1, I wouldn't go near that dyno if you want accurate #'s.
