I'm still running on the stock motor at 7 lbs. I will probably replace the motor before it blows, but it's gone about 15k miles so far with the STS and no problems. I suggest dyno tuning if you stay with the stock motor.

I was thinking about investing in that and going with it, but I am running at 11.1:1 compression, so that might not be effective with my setup as it would with some of you guys. I built with Forged Rods/Pistons, Clevite Bearings, a strong Oil Pump, and lots of other good stuff.

At 7psi I would be looking to intercool or spray it with alky. Either should help keep detonation at bay.

i say rebuild and go forged that way u can get more power out of that thing later on if you decide to go with a bigger turbo.

Why not just spend the $$ on a HC setup and have more power/reliability.

Default Boost

I have 130,000 miles on my 96 camaro and mine is fine and does not use oil. It pulls hard as ****. The vaccum is still around 24. With the kit you only get 5psi to the motor because you lose 2psi through the tubbing. I would go for it and get the methanol kit. Supposibly our cars have forged connecting rods (but im not a 100% sure) but it will not help the pistons...

I agree, at 7lb you need to intercool the motor or it will not last. I have seen to many people at 7lb blow up there motors.

Just make sure you're getting enough fuel into the motor and have a good tune and you should be fine. For a little while at least.

thanks everyone for your help, I think i will get the STS kit and install it, then wait for the motor to go. I will get the intercooler. I was thinking of going HC but i live in CA so i want to stay SMOG LEGAL. almost 400HP is a awesome gain for 4K. Got to invest in a Better 4L60-E though, and a stall to handle all that HP and TQ probably a better Rear end too. everything works hand in hand. thanks again guys.......i will keep you all updated when i install it and dyno my car.

I voted "Do it now" but after thinking about it, I say wait till it pops. You'll get good use form the STS right now, and then you can save up for when she goes. Then you can rebuild it to take more PSI, get an intercooler and a bigger turbo and really melt some tires

Run it into the ground, if it blows then it was meant to be.
