Default Ls1 guy needs lt1 help

Hey guys, My buddy has a 93-94 Trans am M6 that he's trying to sell. He had me drive it to see how it ran. I've driven a few so I had an idea of what to expect from the car. I seemed kinda doggish and idled a little bit rough. I finally put the hammer down and off idle it wouldn't break the tires loose and barely barked second gear when I slammed it as hard as I could. I also notice that around 5k it started to break up and almost "stumble". I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if this is a MAF problem or maybe the opti acting up? Thanks bros.

Kinda sounds like opti. When was the last time it had a tune up?

I'm not sure, I think he said he did cap, rotor, etc. on it this past summer right before he had me drive it.

maybe plugs/wires. mine would jumble up at high rpm and it turns out i had a cracked plug. ran kinda smooth when cruising, but would hickup and hesitate at high rpm.

Sounds like my friend's car. He never opens it up so he doesn't really notice it. He's at school like 4 hours away right now, but I'll see if he's figured anything out.

Sounds like a MAF sensor, try unplugging the MAF and running without it see if its still there. The car will be even more dogish without the MAF but it shouldn't break up on the high end if it was caused by the MAF.

I don't think there was an SES light. I'm gonna try cleaning out the MAF for him next time he's home and see if that helps any before I try unhooking the MAF, Then I'll move on to the OPTI guess. He did say he just had the plugs/wires/cap/rotor etc. changed so if it's not that I've got it down to the MAF and OPTI.

try unhooking the MAF first unless the car is modified highly. cleaning the MAF can very easily damage it, unhooking will keep you from needlessly risking your MAF, if its a farely stock car and unhooking the MAF does nothing then you know it wasnt the MAF and the MAF doesn't need cleaning, only clean the MAF if you need to, And if you do need to clean it be sure to fully disassemble it so you can clean both sides.

Oh yeah if it does turn out to be the MAF I have a stock MAF I might be willing to part with (sensor only)

I'll give it a shot, this car is stone stock as of now. He bought it off some older guy and it only has like 85-90k miles on it now.
